TFT Leveling Guide – Complete Guide to Level Up Fast in Teamfight Tactics 2024

The Spinoff of League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics is an auto battler game offering various modes to players to play and test the basic mechanics of the game to both learn and adapt them to overcome the opponent players. Learning the basic mechanics will help players make their playstyle which will allow them to come up with their unique playstyle that can help them out-stand against all other players in the lobby. However, the real challenge begins in the competitive mode of Teamfight Tactics like in any other games.

The competitive mode is filled with highly experienced players which makes it considerably harder to win and level up. As the competitive mode has 9 different ranks based on players’ MMRs, players will be matched against their respective MMR players and by securing wins in their current rank, they will gain LP which will level them up to the next rank along with increasing their MMR. However, only winning is not enough as players must learn certain strategies on how to level up in Teamfight Tactics to reach the higher ranks.

In this guide, we’ll be going over the leveling techniques in Teamfight Tactics. We are also offering multiple services for teamfight tactics such as tft boosting – you can use our service to push your rank to your desire.

Teamfight Tactics Leveling Guide

Mastering economic management is crucial when engaging in TFT gameplay. Leveling strategies serve as a simple plan for deciding when to level up and use your gold in TFT. It’s important to note that these plans are not always followed exactly, as each game calls for adaptation and flexibility. Additionally, the introduction of Augments in the game means that your economy and leveling requirements may change in each game.

In TFT, there are currently four main strategies for leveling up:

  1. Hyper Rolling/Slow Rolling
  2. Regular Leveling
  3. Fast 8 (Occasionally Fast 7 or Fast 9)
  4. Flexible Leveling

Each strategy corresponds to different team compositions based on the cost of the carries in the lineup. While there are other ways to play the game, these strategies are widely used by players of all skill levels.

Power Spikes

Before delving into each leveling strategy, it’s essential to grasp the concept of power spikes and why they matter. Leveling and rolling are interconnected and are designed to adapt to the game’s current state.

Generally, there are three crucial points in the game:

  • Stage 3-2 (Second Augment)
  • Stage 4-1/4-2 (Last Augment): Some players may aim to power spike at 4-2 for extra gold and to discover their last augment. Others might do so at 4-1 to secure contested units before other players.
  • Stage 5-1 (End Game)

The purpose of leveling strategies is to decide the best course of action at these key points based on your in-game situation.

For instance, if you find yourself exceptionally strong at 3-2 due to lucky upgrades, you can focus on building your economy. This allows you to spike harder at 4-1 by leveling up and rolling more than other players.

On the other hand, if you’re weak at 3-2, consider spending gold to strengthen your team. This can help you establish a win streak and get back into the game. While you may not have as much gold at 4-1 for upgrades, this approach prevents you from bleeding out and finishing in 8th place.

6-1 Power Spike

To a lesser degree, there’s also a power spike at 6-1, but this only becomes significant in longer games. Keep 6-1 in mind if you’re confident about surviving through Stage 5 and aiming for victory.

Now, let’s delve into the overarching framework for approaching the various leveling strategies.

Hyper/Slow Rolling

Hyper Rolling involves spending gold to find crucial upgrades, such as a 3-star unit or a board full of 2 stars. Slow rolling, on the other hand, entails keeping your gold above 50 and rolling a few times per turn to gradually secure upgrades. Combining these two strategies enhances your chances of success, offering adaptability to diverse situations.

Focus: Hyper Rolling and Slow Rolling are strategies tailored for team compositions where the carry is a 1, 2, or 3-cost unit. The main concept is to roll to hit power spikes and leverage win/lose streaks to build a substantial economy. Once a robust economy is established, you can then roll to search for a 3-star carry.

Slow Roll Comps

Game Plan

Stage 2: During Stage 2, it’s advisable to accumulate as much gold as possible. However, with slow rolling, merely picking up the necessary units may lead to health loss. Opt for cost-effective early-game units to maintain health without excessive gold expenditure.

Stage 3-2 Power Spike: Stage 3 marks a strategic shift based on your carry’s cost.

  • 1-Cost: Roll down to around 20 gold on 3-1, maintaining level 4 for increased odds of hitting 1-cost units. Build back up to 50 and slow roll for other 1-cost units before leveling up.
  • 2-Cost: Reach level 6 at 3-2 for a 2-cost carry. Decide to roll for upgrades or build your economy based on board strength and remaining health.
  • 3-Cost: Also level to 6 at 3-2 for 3-cost carries. Consider rolling based on your board strength, balancing between weaknesses and strengths.

Stage 4-1/4-2 Power Spike: Tailor the game plan to your carry.

  • 1-Cost: With most units likely at 3-stars, use excess gold to catch up in levels. Add extra units for trait bonuses, even if upgrades aren’t feasible.
  • 2-Cost: If your 3-star carry isn’t secured by 4-1, roll down and then level up to 7. Falling behind is likely without the necessary hits.
  • 3-Cost: 3-cost units can carry through Stage 4 with a 2-star board. Roll down for upgrades and rebuild the economy for a 5-1 roll down.

Stage 5-1 Power Spike: Focus on strengthening your team.

  • 1-Cost: Reach level 8 to potentially add a 4 or 5-cost unit. Prioritize upgrading units on the board if lacking upgrades.
  • 2-Cost: Similar to 1-cost, decide between upgrading units or leveling up for another slot.
  • 3-Cost: Consider 5-1 as your power spike for 3-cost carries. Roll down to find your carry and aim for crucial hits.

Important Notes:

  • Scout the lobby to gauge competition for your comp. Uncontested comps generally lead to better unit acquisition.
  • Some comps use 1 and 2-cost units. Hyper roll for a 1-cost early, then slow roll at level 5 for other 1 and 2-costs. Alternatively, slow roll entirely at level 6 for increased odds of hitting the main carry.
  • The general game plan serves as a guideline for when to level/roll gold. Adjust as needed if close to an upgrade to hit power spikes sooner or later.

Traditional Leveling Strategy

Focus: This strategy is considered standard, having been a fixture in the game for an extended period. It typically adopts a conventional approach, often centering around a 4-cost unit as the primary carry. While these compositions look to incorporate 5-cost units in the late game for added strength, they don’t necessarily revolve around a 5-cost unit. However, this strategy exhibits a high degree of variability, adapting to the units and items discovered throughout the game.

Game Plan

Stage 2: In Stage 2, consider attempting a win streak if you encounter upgraded units or powerful items. Depending on your resources, you can level to 4 on Round 2-1 or even 2-2 if you secured victory in the first round and found additional upgraded units. If your win streak persists, consider reaching level 5 right after the carousel on 2-4 to extend your success.

Alternatively, if you lack strong units, losing streaking and building up your economy without leveling is a viable option. At Krugs, if you doubt your ability to defeat them at level 4, leveling up to 5 ensures you obtain all possible item drops.

Stage 3: With a win streak going into Stage 3, you can level up to 6 on 3-1 to safeguard your streak. Feeling strong or daring, you might also level up to 6 on 3-2 if you won the fight on 3-1 without leveling. A win streak allows you to accumulate gold without rolling for units, aiming to reach levels 7 and 8 to secure core units.

For those on a losing streak, reaching level 6 on 3-2 can help stem the losses. Consider rolling down some gold to stabilize or opt for a riskier approach by enduring the losing streak, especially if you haven’t been losing every fight without eliminating any units.

Stage 4: Around Round 4-1, almost every player (excluding hyper rolling or slow rolling strategies) will level up to 7. Regardless of your streak status, ideally, you should also hit level 7 at this point.

If you possess ample health or maintain a win streak, you may opt not to roll and aim to reach level 8 early. If health is low and your board is weak, rolling some gold at level 7 becomes crucial to stabilize the board and find 4-cost units to recover.

Stage 5+: Similar to Stage 4, on Round 5-1, most players (excluding hyper rolling or slow rolling strategies) will level up to 8. Level 8 is often considered a significant power spike, offering optimal unit combinations for most compositions. It also provides a solid chance to find 5-cost units and a good chance to find 4-cost units.

Hit level 8 on this round and roll down your gold to complete your team. If all your units are 2-star, consider building your economy back up to reach level 9, further enhancing your composition and seeking 2-star 5-cost units.

Important Notes:

  • Regular Leveling often relies on 4-cost carries like Samira or Soraka and introduces variations in how greedy you should be with your economy. If win streaking, you might choose to go Fast 8, sacrificing some health for better odds of finding core units. Similarly, for those on a losing streak, going Fast 8 as a last resort to stabilize is an option.
  • Constantly hovering in the middle may make it challenging to decide whether to go Fast 8, as there might not be enough gold to do so reasonably.

Following this regular leveling strategy provides a reliable way to secure a consistent top-4 finish.

Fast 8

Focus: Fast 8 involves advancing to level 8 early (typically around Round 4-3 or 4-5) to expedite the acquisition of 4 and 5-cost units, surpassing opponents in efficiency. In previous metas, certain 5-cost units, such as Set 2 Zed or Set 1 Kai’Sa, could single-handedly carry a team, making Fast 8 an instrumental strategy to secure these potent units for team dominance. Presently, Fast 8 is more of an alternative within regular leveling, contingent on the specific circumstances of the game.

Game Plan

Stage 2: For a successful Fast 8, a substantial gold reserve is essential. In Stage 2, adhere to a conventional strategy by committing to either a win streak or a lose streak based on the units you encounter.

Stage 3: Stage 3 mirrors the approach of regular leveling, with the only difference being that, if opting for Fast 8, refraining from rolling down at level 6 is crucial. Continue committing to your lose streak without rolling, ensuring that if your win streak falters, your health remains robust enough to endure rounds while saving gold.

Fast 7 Option: In case you have a significant gold surplus, an alternative is to reach level 7 early after the carousel on Round 3-5. Typically, no rolling follows this, and this choice is made when a robust 7th unit is available. This option is selected either to sustain a win streak or to mitigate losses during a losing streak.

Stage 4: The awaited moment arrives in Stage 4. By round 4-3, hitting level 8 is feasible with approximately 30-40 gold remaining if you maintained a judicious economy. Upon reaching level 8, initiate a roll-down to secure your essential 4-cost carry and potentially discover 5-cost carries that complement your team. Alternatively, if still formidable without rolling, leveling up to 8 and patiently waiting for natural shop refreshes may yield core 4 or 5-cost units, saving the roll-down for 5-1. In dire situations, especially when facing significant losses, an early roll-down becomes imperative.

Stage 5+: By 5-1, nearly everyone in the lobby attains level 8, excluding Hyper and Slow Roll comps. If fortunate enough to have high-rolled your entire team without an extensive roll-down at level 8, contemplating a Fast 9 becomes plausible.

For Fast 9, conserve your gold to reach level 9. If you’ve completed your team during Stage 4, saving up earlier allows you to hit level 9 well before other players. This scenario usually unfolds during a win streak but may also transpire if you high-roll your units after reaching level 8 on 4-3 following a losing streak.

Important Notes

  • If you’re experiencing a substantial win streak, opting for a Fast 8 can reliably secure a top 2 finish, and potentially clinch first place.
  • In the midst of a pronounced losing streak, choosing Fast 8 becomes a risky endeavor in an attempt to contend for first, even following a challenging start. Unfortunately, if the losing streak persists and your essential units remain elusive post Fast 8, it’s likely to result in a swift 8th place.
  • If you feel sufficiently formidable and naturally discover your core units, considering a Fast 8 or even a Fast 9 may be viable. However, if other players are running the same composition, it might be wise to roll down at levels 7 or 8 to secure crucial unit copies, anticipating competition for them.

Additional Tips and Strategies

Adaptation is Key

Always be prepared to adapt your strategy. Regardless of the chosen approach, not every game will have a straightforward decision like leveling up or rolling down. Exceptional players understand various strategies but also navigate the game’s flow, making necessary adjustments. For instance, in hyper-rolling, deciding when to level up to 7 is a nuanced choice. Is it based on gold availability, or should you adopt a slow-leveling approach to secure a smoother transition to level 8? Evaluate the intricacies and reflect on the effectiveness of your decisions.

Define Your Playstyle

Understanding the fundamentals of each leveling strategy empowers you to identify a playstyle that aligns with your preferences. If you enjoy experimenting with multiple compositions, strategize on leveling and rolling to keep various options open throughout the game. On the other hand, if you prefer specializing in one particular composition, master its intricacies and fine-tune your leveling strategy accordingly. While the provided strategies serve as basic guidelines for specific compositions, discovering your unique playstyle will be the most rewarding and contribute to your climbing success.
