Overwatch 2 Season 9 Recap – Everything You Should Know About

Having a recap of your favorite show always feels good. Reliving the moments that you have shared with the show always feels special. It does not matter how old the show is; the only thing that matters is our memories of it. The same thing happens with the video games we once played and loved in childhood. If we ever hear about them, we get a nostalgic ride.

Title (ow2 season 9) and brand logo

Those games always feel right and satisfying for some reason. But this blog’s topic is not about retro games or anything. In this blog, we are going to talk about Overwatch 2; to be more precise, we are going to talk about season 9, which started on February 13th to April 16th. Currently, we are at the start of Season 10, but we will not discuss anything related to that because we will only talk about Season 9 today. In this blog, we will talk about things that came with that season. The content, the competitive changes, the heroes changes, and anything major that came with that season. This blog will be a recap of season 9 and any of the content that came in between the duration of it.

The competitive Changes:

The first big change in season 9 was the changes in the Matchmaking and rank rating system. Blizzard told the fans that they listened to their feedback and that they had readjusted the matchmaking and the ranking system accordingly. The first change is that your rank changes will now be more apparent. They have also added skill modifiers that help the players to understand their progress towards their most wanted rank.

The next big change is the soft rank reset, which means that whatever rank you had in season 8 will no longer be viable in this one. Now, you will have a much better chance to climb up in the ranks quickly. Blizzard has also inserted the initial placement matches in which you would have a much higher chance to climb not only the ranks but even the entire divisions. So you better be prepared because this chance can get you from a bronze to a diamond or even the master pretty quickly and flawlessly.

The next big change in ranking is that Blizzard has added a fresh rank into the game, which is the grand master rank. The developers are hoping that this rank will make the matchmaking system worthwhile for highly skilled players. Being in the top 500 is already hard enough for most players. But with enough time in your hand and willingness to go above and beyond, it can help you to reach the grand master rank.

The Cosmic Crisis:

The next thing that Blizzard had added to the game was this cosmic crisis co-op mode. Players have to play unique missions with heroes. Each mission was designed to be different to make them more interesting and worthwhile for the players. In the cosmic crisis, the players were getting to play with Moira, Ana, Hillary, and a couple more heroes. In this co-op mode, you’ll have to find the reason behind your crash landing while also escaping the mysterious threats. For a twist, Blizzard has added a traitor to your team.

A Change In Hero Mastery?

You know the game mode, which helps you get better at a hero. If that does not sound familiar, then don’t worry. Most new players don’t know about hero mastery mode. In season 9, Blizzard announced that they are making the hero mastery mode a multiplayer experience.

Now, you have to work with your team, survive the waves of enemies, and defend your towers against them.

While this change does cater to a smaller audience, in my opinion, if you are new to the game, then you should hit up some hero mastery and master your main. This will help you in the future.

New Balance to the Gameplay & self-healing:

Blizzard is trying to level the playing field. This season, they have performed a new global change that will affect any hero in the game, whether it’s the damage they dealt or the projectile size and damage they give. Blizzard is also making changes to the overall health of the characters.

The devil is in the details, and I am here to give you a simple recap of the season. If you want to know more about these changes, you could go to Blizzard’s website and read the patch notes yourself.

Reworks of Pharah and Junker Town:

Reworks-in-Overwatch2-season9

Instead of introducing a new hero into the game, Blizzard has worked on a hero who is already somewhat overpowered. The map of Junker town has also been reworked and made some adjustments. So I’ll talk about both of them one by one. Pharah has had her abilities reworked and also received some much-needed nerfs and buffs.

Pharah:

Her passive has been reworked so her time in the air can be down. Fuel is recharged only while she is on the ground, which limits her air time significantly. To compensate for this change, the blizzard buffed her movement abilities. Her speed and acceleration in the air have been buffed, which allows her to travel around the map much faster. But since her re-fueling has been adjusted, players can’t abuse this buff.

They have also given her a new ability called jet dash. This ability works because whenever Sarah uses her secondary fire, she will dash to where she is aiming. In my opinion, these changes affected her swiftly and made her a little less annoying to face.

Junker Town:

The first big change on the map is that the first checkpoint has been readjusted to make it far more open to attack, which makes it more friendly towards the defending side. A new building has been added to the side that blocks the line above the choke point. They have also added a few more cars for Widow Maker or Pharah to get covered in.

The balcony on the overlooking hairpin has also been readjusted to lessen the advantage that defenders have on that choke point. They also added a vertical support beam on the hallway to block the sightline which ultimately gave the attacking team a little more breathing room to play.

Verdict:

Now, we are at the very end of this blog. Thank you for sticking with me until the end. Do tell me about your thoughts on season 9. In my opinion, this was, at best, a mid-season update since we got very little content in it. But I am interested to hear your opinions on it, too.
