Destiny 2: Guardian Games 2023 Guide

Destiny 2 offers several activities and events in the game for all guardians to partake in and earn various rewards. One of the events that occurs once a year is Guardian Games which is open to all players. The Guardian Games event for the year 2023 has been confirmed and be added with the Lightfall update. This guide will highlight the start time of the event, how to play the games in the event, and what rewards they offer.

What is the Guardian Games Event in Destiny 2

This yearly competitive event features Warlocks, Titans, and Hunters engaging in fierce battles to determine the ultimate class. The Guardian classes’ rivalry in Destiny 2 is known for its Olympic-like atmosphere. Although only one class will emerge victorious, participants have the opportunity to earn rewards. The event promises the introduction of two new weapons, cosmetics, Exotic emotes, and various other exciting additions.

Guardian Games 2023 Starting Date

The Guardian Games will begin on May 2, 2023, and will last for the next three weeks until the end of the season on May 20, 2023.

How to Participate in the Guardian Games in Destiny 2

To join the Games, head to the primary event host, Eva Levante, located in the Tower. Obtain the Guardian Games quest and a class item from her.

Each class faces the challenge of gathering the highest number of medallions and depositing them onto the Podium. This determines the daily, weekly, and overall winner of the event. There are multiple avenues to earn these coveted medallions.

How to Acquire Medallions

  • You can obtain bronze or silver medallions (low tier) by participating in Gambit and Quickplay Crucible matches, all Vanguard playlists, and most Neptune and Defiant Battlegrounds events.
  • For gold and platinum (high-level) medallions, engage in Nightfalls, raids, dungeons, Competitive Crucible, Trials of Osiris, or Legend Defiant Battlegrounds.
  • Contender Cards, which cost 1,000 Glimmer each, also grant gold medallions. Note that you can carry only two Contender Cards simultaneously—one for Strikes and Gambit, and one for Crucible.
  • Platinum Cards, priced at 1,500 Glimmer each, yield platinum medallions. Similar to Contender Cards, you can carry two at a time: one for Strikes and Gambit, and one for Crucible.

Upon redeeming medallions and completing quests in the event playlists, there’s a chance to receive two Guardian Games weapons.

Event Card

The Event Card is accessible to all players without any cost, serving as a tool to accumulate additional rewards during Guardian Games. These rewards include two new Exotic Emotes and an exclusive title, “Champ,” which can be adorned by fulfilling a set of additional Triumphs.

For those seeking enhanced rewards, the Event Card can be upgraded for 1,000 silver at any point until May 23. This upgrade unlocks new rewards, with additional tickets for more rewards, even if the Card remains unupgraded.

Additionally, if you’ve achieved titles in recent seasonal events such as Solstice, Festival of the Lost, and Dawning, and have earned the Champ title, you’ll also receive the Reveler title for the first time.

Destiny 2 Guardian Games 2023 Playlists

Advancing through the Guardian Games 2023 questline involves achieving high scores in both playlist modes, illuminating new torches in the Tower. Each lit torch corresponds to a reward, and the rewards improve with the level of the illuminated torch. Therefore, it’s essential to light torches on a weekly basis.

Strike Scoring

Strike point scoring was introduced in the previous year’s Guardian Games. Attaining high scores unlocks powerful buffs for your weapons and abilities, resulting in more Strike Medals, points, and even more robust buffs.

Playlists

Similar to the previous year, there are two distinct Strike Playlists: the Guardian Games Ops Playlist and the Guardian Games Ops Competitive Playlist. These playlists are available in regular matchmaking mode and class-specific matchmaking mode, offering additional rewards. The Competitive Playlist allows for pre-created team participation.

Another distinction between the Playlists lies in the active strike scoring feature. The Ops Playlist encompasses all currently available strikes, while the Competitive Playlist features weekly strikes such as Nightfall, complete with modifiers and a Hero difficulty scale.

Supermacy Class Matchmaking Game Mode

For Crucible enthusiasts, a unique 6vs6 Supremacy game mode with class matchmaking options will be introduced in this year’s Guardian Games.

In this version of Supremacy, players can only team up with members of their class. Victory is achieved by collecting class-branded crests dropped by fallen Guardians, regardless of class or opponents.

Rewards for the Supremacy quest, akin to Guardian Games Ops, involve lighting four additional torches in the Tower.

Guardian Games 2023 Rewards

Firstly, Bungie has presented an unexpected gift for those who missed last year’s Guardian Games – providing another opportunity to obtain the Void SMG Title, now equipped with new perks, including the highly sought-after Repulsor Brace.

Additionally, they have introduced a new weapon exclusive to this year’s Games – Taraxippos, the inaugural legendary Strand Scout Rifle featuring a lightweight frame with 200 RPM for the Kinetic Slot. The desired version of Taraxippos can be acquired, promising an impressive combination of perks, with rumors suggesting at least Kill Clip and Outlaw.

Secondly, in keeping with tradition, new armor is anticipated, likely available in the Eververse store. Class items, distributed by Eva Levante at the onset of the Guardian Games quest, will also make a return.

For those eager to showcase their achievements in the Tower, class items will dynamically reflect your score through changing colors. Moreover, if your weekly score surpasses others, the item will emit a distinctive glow.

Unlocking additional rewards is also in the cards, featuring a limited-edition Sparrow vehicle, Ghost Shell, and a new Exotic Emote.
