Borderlands 4 Guide 2025 – Essential Tips for Beginners

Picking a new game is always a difficult thing to do because most of the time, we don’t know what we are doing, and because of that, we never get around to playing it. Unless the game has been on hype train, for example, most of us played black myth wukong just because it was hyped, while it was a great game indeed, but still, if it wasn’t that hyped, half of the players would’ve skipped it.

Another factor is when an iteration of a pre-existing game series is released. Players usually avoid it because they haven’t played the previous parts of that game. For example, a lot of players have skipped the Doom Dark Ages because they haven’t played the previous parts. Now, in this blog, I am going to prevent you from making the same mistake. In this blog, I will guide you on how to play Borderlands 4 as a beginner, even if you haven’t played any of the previous ones.

The setting of the game:

The game takes place 6 years after Borderlands 3’s story concluded.  The planet we start the journey on is called Kairos, and it is said that it was hidden from the universe before or has been isolated from the rest of the universe.  The story starts when Lilith used her powers to teleport the moon to this planet Kairos’s orbit, and this moon teleportation caused the kairo’s protective barrier to break apart, which ultimately led the whole planet to get caught in chaos.

The game’s villain is named Timekeeper, and he is a dictator of the planet, and he does that with mind control devices called time bolts. Now, after the protective barrier gets torn apart, a lot of inhabitants of the planet revolt against the time keeper, and that’s when we, the player, get introduced into the story. You, as a player, are one of the four Vault Hunters who crash landed on this planet and got arrested and bolted by the time keepers, and later on escaped and joined a resistance group. Now we, as players, have to revolt against the timekeeper.

Now, to keep the game spoiler-free, I’m not going to tell you anything else about the story of the game. Let’s talk about something else, such as the game’s map and its layout.

Game’s world:

So the planet is divided into four different regions. Each Region has a different vibe, look, hazards, and factions, and they are seamlessly connected. What I mean by that is now you wouldn’t have to wait for a loading screen, or you wouldn’t have a barrier of entry in these districts. You can roam around and explore Kairos freely. The game’s world and its activities are dynamic, which means that some of the missions aren’t forced, and events are dynamic just like they are in Red Dead Redemption 2. You go discover new things and activities, and get the feeling of the real open world experience.

  • Fadefield: The fade field is the area where there are rolling hills, forests, and greenery everywhere. While the region might look good and peaceful, injustice and oppression are prevalent. This region is ruled by a local, and he is the one who controls the supplies of everything that comes in and out of the region.
  • Terminus Range: This region is the coldest one, and it has the harshest conditions. There are frigid peaks, rocky terrain, ice caves, and a lot of vertical terrain. This region is tough because, apart from the environmental hazards, the enemies are also really tough.
  • Carcadia Burn: This region comes with more of a wasteland vibe because not only does it have sun-scorched deserts, but it also has a lot more dangerous enemies than before. The environment is also a headache because there are going to be multiple sandstorms or sandsliding, which will put you at a disadvantage.
  • Dominion: This region is more like a capital for the whole plant. It is urban, it has the fortress of the time keep, and it is heavily foresight and controlled by the timekeeper’s security. Also, it is the final region of the game.

💡 Tip: If you’re planning to dive into Borderlands 4 on PC, make sure your system is running smoothly. Upgrading to a genuine Windows 11 key can help boost performance, enhance security, and ensure better compatibility with the latest games — including Borderlands 4.

Classes In Borderlands 4:

Now, let’s talk about the in-game classes and what they have. There are 4 classes in the game now, some of them are better at one thing than the other and vice versa. So if you’re playing a co-op, then neither class is bad, but if you’re playing solo, then you should pick the one that has the highest damaging abilities.

Vex the siren:

The vex’s archetype is based on elemental utility and flexibility. Her power is phase covenant, which means that her abilities, as well as her melee, can adopt the elements of the current gun. She can spawn clones like her to fight for her. Her skill tree focuses mostly on damage.

Rafa the Exo Soldier:

The Rafa is an all-around soldier type. He uses shock and corrosive damage. He is a versatile hybrid class who is capable of both ranged and melee damage.  His hunter’s trait is the overdrive, which boosts both his damage and his movement speed.  He can play like a heavy weapons guy, turret specialist, or close-range fighter.

Harlowe The gravitar:

She is the “IT guy” of the game; she is a tech and gadgets expert. The focus of her elemental skills is on ice and radiation damage. Namely, cryo and radiation, her hunter trait is entanglement, which means that when she entangles enemies, they will share the damage all around, which means she can be a beast in crowd fights.

Amon the forgekinght:

The last and fourth class of the game is a tank as well as a melee specialist. He is built to take a lot more damage than the other classes, and he can deliver even more damage to the enemies who are in close quarters. He forges elemental weapons like throwing axes, a slamming hammer, and a shield for himself.

Weapons:

Now at last, let’s talk about the weapon, and we will have almost everything a beginner needs in the context of playing and learning the game. So there are 8 different types of manufacturers of weapons in the game, and I will be listing them down here as well, giving a bit of an intro about each type:

  • Jakobs: The Jakobs are the ones who make high critical hit damage weapons, the old west style weapons, and their bullets ricochet on critical hits.
  • Maliwan: These are the ones who are elemental specialists. They often make weapons with fire, ice, and shock.
  • Torgue: Torgue is the explosive type they have sticky projectiles as well as splash damage.
  • Vladof:  blazingly high fire rate with large magazines, and they often come with alternate firing options and underbarrel attachments.
  • Tediore: In their guns, the reload mechanics involve throwing the gun away instead of reloading the magazine. The thrown magazine caused an explosion.
  • Order: these are the modern guns with precision high-powered shots, and since they are precise, the better your aim, the more harm you could cause with them.
  • Daedalus: These are the ones who are the most adaptable on the list. They have multiple armor types, and they are a lot more player-friendly in that regard.
  • Ripper: These are the ones that have a charge mechanic, which means that upon charging, they could transition from one rate of fire to another.

Conclusion:

Now that’s about it for this blog. I have given almost everything that you could need to get into the game and get your way. While I have left out some minute details like the movement and gear system because this is a beginner’s guide and those things are a little more complicated for beginner-level players. So after playing for sometime you’ll get to know about them yourself. So go out and play the game and most importantly, have fun.
