The Dragonflight expansion of the game is all about dragons. So, the game makers decided to add a brand-new type of character called the Evoker. This article talks about the Evoker and its special abilities, especially the Devastation abilities and maximizing the DPS.
Right now, only the new Dracthyr group can play as the Evoker character. You can choose to focus on causing a lot of damage using Devastation or on healing your allies using Preservation. Both ways of playing use the magic of five different types of dragons, each with their own special spells and ways of working. When it comes to the Devastation abilities, they use the powers of the Red and Blue Dragonflights to cause a lot of damage from a medium distance.
Devastation Evoker Overview
Evokers are a totally new type of character in the Dragonflight game. Right now, only the new Dracthyr group can pick this character. The Devastation Evoker is like a magic attacker who stands at a medium distance and can use their abilities up to 25 yards away.
The Evoker has a bunch of different abilities you can choose from in their talent tree. This helps you become really good at fighting one enemy, fighting a group of enemies, or attacking a whole area at once. To do this, you’ll use the special powers of the Red and Blue dragonflights.
Evokers use a new thing called Essence, which fills back up over time. You use Essence to perform the Disintegrate move for attacking one target or the Pyre move for attacking a bunch of targets together.
Evokers can also use a special kind of magic called Empowered Spells. These spells get stronger the more you use them, and how they work changes depending on how long you make them stronger. In the Devastation type, you can use two Empowered Spells: Fire Breath and Eternity Surge.
Even though it might look like you just use spells in order, the talents you choose actually change how you use these spells. This makes the Evoker class more interesting and gives you more options for fighting.
Devastation Evoker Strengths and Weaknesses
The Strengths and Weaknesses of Devastation Evoker are the following.
Strengths:
- Can become really good at certain types of damage and do well in those situations.
- Can cause a lot of damage to enemies who haven’t been attacked yet.
- Moves around quickly.
- Can rescue teammates using the Rescue ability.
- Can get rid of various bad effects on teammates. Expunge removes poisons and Cauterizing Flame removes bleeds, poisons, curses, and diseases.
Weaknesses:
- Need time to get used to attacking from a distance of 25 yards.
- Can be defeated easily because they don’t have a lot of health points.
- Only have two abilities to protect themselves, and once they use them, they can be easily defeated.
Devastation Evoker Changes for Patch 10.1.5
All of the changes regarding Devastation Evoker for Patch 10.1.5 are the following.
- Mastery scaling is made 20% less powerful now, but it’s still a really good second skill.
- All abilities now do 6.5% more damage to make up for the weaker Mastery.
- The amount of Mana needed for healing moves has been changed, and the most Mana a character can have has gone up. This doesn’t make things better or worse overall.
- The Evoker class tree has some nice changes that make the game easier and more enjoyable.
Basics of Devastation Evoker Gameplay
Playing as a Devastation Evoker means you’ll always be using spells, and each spell affects the next one you cast.
- If you use Blue Spells with the Charged Blast ability, your next Pyre will do more damage.
- When you cast Empowered Spells during Dragonrage with the Animosity ability, Dragonrage lasts longer.
- If you cast Fire Breath with the Leaping Flames ability, your next Living Flame will hit more enemies (depending on how strong the Empower is).
- Healing other players with Scarlet Adaptation will make your next Living Flame hit harder.
- The cooldown of your Empowered Spells goes down when you use Essence with the Causality ability.
These interactions make your fighting style more interesting. Even just a few of them add depth to how you fight, making this DPS specialization more engaging and fun to play.
Devastation Evoker Leveling
To level up faster, you can follow this plan:
- Start with Dragonrage.
- Use Fire Breath as strong as possible, whenever you can.
- Use Eternity Surge as soon as it’s ready.
- Use Shattering Star whenever it’s ready.
- Against many enemies, use Pyre. Against one enemy, use Disintegrate.
- Cast Living Flame and Azure Strike to get Essence Burst for other moves.
To level up quicker and better, you can use the following consumables:
- Gunshoes to move around faster.
- Cosmic Healing Potion to heal when needed.
- Potion of Spectral Intellect to boost your brainpower and do more damage.
- Shadowcore Oil to do more damage normally.
- Heavy Desolate Armor Kit to have more health.
- Fried Bonefish/Bear Tartare to move faster after defeating an enemy.
When you reach the highest level, you’ll spend most of your time doing challenging tasks like raiding or clearing dungeons. This is to get really good gear and make your character stronger. But sometimes, you might not have a good team or enough time for these tasks. If that’s the case, we’re here to help you out.
Devastation Evoker Viability
The way you choose your talents decides how well the Devastation Evoker works in different situations. If you don’t pick the right talents for the fight, your damage might be much lower. For example, using a setup meant for attacking one enemy in a big group fight can make your damage lower. Having different talent setups can prevent this problem.
Evokers don’t have a lot of health and can easily get hurt by damage they could have avoided. This might make you feel vulnerable or “squishy.” But Evokers can move around quickly, which helps you dodge this damage more easily.
Also, you can help your team in different ways. Healing boosts your damage with Scarlet Adaptation, and Blessing of the Bronze makes your teammates move faster by reducing the time between their special moves. Time Spiral lets everyone use their speed-up move for free. Zephyr lowers the damage from big attacks and makes you all move faster. And you can even pick up a teammate and move them somewhere else with the Rescue ability. This is really helpful for saving slow players or moving someone out of danger.
Gear Up Devastation Evoker
For a Devastation Evoker, Mastery is really important. But Intellect is even better for making your attacks stronger. On average, each point of Intellect gives you twice as much damage as other secondary stats. So, you’ll often focus on getting gear with higher item levels, except for trinkets and some gear that’s much better than other choices.
BiS Equipment for Devastation Evoker
With the Dragonflight expansion, there’s a new Crafting Order system. This means regular players don’t have to rely as much on getting Raid and Mythic+ sets. But, the items you make through crafting aren’t as good as the ones you get from those in-game activities. In this part of the guide, we want to show you some tables with the best equipment for the Devastation Evoker.
First, let’s talk about the best gear for Raids (BiS Raid Equipment). This gear is mostly about making your Mastery and Haste stats strong. This helps you do the most damage, which is what you want when you play as this type of character. Remember, it’s really hard to collect all these items, but you can try your best to get as many of them as you can.

The Mythic+ and possibly the best equipment for Devastation Evoker is the following.

Getting all the right armor is just part of the challenge. You also need Trinkets to make your character stronger. These are really important because they boost your main and extra abilities.

S | Spoils of Neltharus | Neltharus |

If you want to use Flightstones, which help make your Mythic+ gear stronger up to level 441, it’s smart to upgrade rings and trinkets. They’re a good choice because they give you lots of Mastery when you upgrade them.
You can also use something called Spark of Shadowflame to make your gear better. You get one more Spark every week. But since this is really rare, only use it for things that are really worth it. Here are the armor pieces you should try to make:
- Adaptive Dracothyst Armguards
- Flame-Touched Chainmail
- Obsidian Seared Hexsword
- Crackling Codex of the Isles
- Obsidian Seared Invoker
You can also add things to your armor to make them even better. But you can only do this for 2 pieces of gear.
- Adaptive Dracothyst Armguards
- Undulating Sporecloak
- Shadowflame-Tempered Armor Patch
- Blue Silken Lining
- Infurious Boots of Reprieve (only for PvP)
As you can see, there are many gear pieces to think about. Most of this gear can be found while playing the game.
Devastation Evoker Stat Priority
No matter which class you play, the right stat order is super important. If you pick the right stat build, you’ll do much better in both PvE and PvP. In this part of the article, we’ll tell you all about your stats and how they affect your gameplay.
Your main stat is Intellect, which makes your spells and damage stronger. Wearing Mail armor helps increase it. You want to max it out because it boosts your damage a lot.
- Mastery is really important because it makes your damage better and improves Mastery: Giantkiller.
- Haste helps your spells go faster. This matters because you want to use certain strong moves quickly one after the other.
- Critical Strike raises the chances of dealing extra damage or extra healing.
- Versatility slightly increases your damage and healing, and it also makes you take less damage from enemies.
- Even though Versatility has its benefits, it’s not the main focus. Unless you’re getting attacked a lot and defeated too quickly, then it could be more useful.
The order of stats you focus on can change depending on the situation or what you like. But it usually works well if you follow the order we talked about. No matter what, always aim to do more damage because that’s what this character is about.
Devastation Evoker Enchants and Gems
Getting strong gear isn’t the only way to make your character better. You can also buy different enchantments to boost your extra stats. Remember, the Mastery stat gives you the most advantage.
Slot | Ideal Choice |
Weapon | Sophic Devotion/Wafting Devotion |
Cloak | Homebound Speed |
Chest | Waking Stats |
Bracers | Devotion of Speed |
Legs | Lambent Armor Kit |
Belt | Shadowed Belt Clasp |
Boots | Plainsrunner’s Breeze |
Rings | Devotion of Mastery |
To make your attacks stronger, you can drink an Elemental Potion of Ultimate Power. If you want a less expensive option, choose Elemental Potion of Power. Because the Evoker class doesn’t have much health, it’s good to carry Refreshing Healing Potion to stay alive during fights. If you want more healing, try Potion of Withering Vitality, but remember it has a downside. Items like Delicate Suspension of Spores and Residual Neural Channeling Agent can help your teammates even when you die.
Devastation Evoker End-Game
When you reach the end-game content, there are three main things you can do: Raiding, Mythic+ dungeons, and Player versus Player (PvP) battles. Each of these activities shows how well your character can do in different ways.
Improve Devastation Evoker
Use Dragonrage
Just like with other special moves, you’re not using them effectively if you keep them without using them. This is true for Dragonrage too.
While it might be a bit tempting to save Dragonrage a bit because you already have the best benefit from Mastery: Giantkiller at the start, your goal is to use Dragonrage as many times as possible during a fight. It’s best if you know how long the fight will last, so you can plan to use Dragonrage several times.
Also, you don’t want to finish the fight with Dragonrage still active because that would mean you didn’t use its damage potential effectively.
Use Hover
When you “Hover,” it doesn’t trigger the GCD but only stops you from doing other actions for a moment. This lets you use an instant spell, and while waiting for the GCD of that spell, you can still “Hover.” This way, you don’t waste any GCDs in your attack sequence. Use this when you have to move but still want to keep dealing damage.
Spender
You need to be careful about how many enemies you’re fighting. If you use “Disintegrate” when “Pyre” could be better, you’ll end up doing less damage.
Empowered Spells
Just like when you spend Essence, you also have to think about the situation when you use “Fire Breath” and “Eternity Surge.” For “Eternity Surge,” only charge it based on how many enemies you’re fighting. Charging it more than needed won’t make it do extra damage and will just be a waste of time.
With “Fire Breath,” it’s a bit more complicated. You should think about how long the enemy will stay alive. You want “Fire Breath” to be on the enemy as much as possible. But if the enemy has low health, it’s better to charge “Fire Breath” more so it does more damage quickly. This way, you won’t waste any damage if the enemy dies with the ongoing damage effect still active.
Conclusion
The Devastation Evoker is a new and exciting type of character that you should check out. It has brand-new abilities that you might not have seen before. This character is really balanced because it can deal a lot of damage and also has important skills to help the team. It works great in all sorts of teams and can do well against one enemy or many enemies at once.
