Is Destiny 2 Cross Platform; Everything You Should Know

Discover everything you need to know about the crossplay in Destiny 2 and how to enable or disable it on different consoles.

Crossplay in Destiny 2 is very easy to do if you have friends on the PlayStation, PC, or Xbox. On the PlayStation controller, all you have to do is press the touchpad button down. Bungie has a solution for the players who want to compete against other players on other platforms. Players don’t need to have a Bungie.net account to use Crossplay. Use this feature in Destiny 2 to create fireteams and play with others from all supported platforms. Cross Save allows you to access a set of their characters across all of their accounts on different platforms. In this guide, we’ll discuss how cross-platform works in Destiny 2 and what is required to play with other players across different platforms.

What is Crossplay in Destiny 2

Bungie launched crossplay, meaning you’ll be able to play with PC players on Steam, console users from Xbox, and PlayStation. They’ve also included Stadia in this mix. So, how easy is it to get started cross-playing with others, including friends on your friends list? The first time you open up the game with the new update, you’ll be either notified that you need a Bungie.net account to be able to cross-play. They will also automatically assign you a Bungie.net account number at the end of your account if you have a Bungie.net account linked already.

It’s probably a good idea to make sure everything is set up on your account. This is regardless of whether you have a bungie.net account linked or not. So, before proceeding, head over to bungie.net and create your account or log in.

How to Crossplay

Here are all the steps to set up cross-play in Destiny 2.

  • Once you’re logged in, you can check your profile and make any of these basic changes you want here.
  • The next step is to link your platform accounts.
  • Go to the account linking tab on the left navigation.
  • Now, you will choose the platforms that you play on and sync them to your Bungie.net account.
  • You will need your platform-specific credentials to log into each individual system, so have those ready.

The next part is the best part about this crossplay feature. They allow you to play your characters from one specific platform on any platform you desire.

  • To do this, go to the cross-save link on the left navigation. You should see all your linked accounts here.
  • Make sure that all the accounts associated with your account are authenticated, and hit the continue button.
  • You can also link your platforms from here if you didn’t do it in the last step.
  • From here, you’ll be able to choose the active account with the characters you want to use on all platforms.
  • Confirm that account, and then it will have you review your account to activate.
  • Hit the yes, do it button, and it will have you hit check boxes to confirm one last time.
  • Once finished, you’ll see a final confirmation screen, and you should be good to go.

If you want to review your setup one more time, hit that button in the middle. Now, you’ll be able to see your account and the ability to deactivate cross-save. You will also have the ability to buy the expansions for every platform. The expansions do not cross over to each platform. Their progress does but the ability to play them does not. So, you will have to buy them separately for each platform get them on sale.

Make sure to create a Bungie.net account and connect all relevant game accounts to it. Connect your accounts directly to your Bungie accounts to enable crossplay. This link is used to connect the players across platforms such as Steam, Xbox Live, and others.

Invite Your Friends

I would highly suggest that you add your friends from your other platforms through the import tool on the Bungie Friends tab. You can import all of your contacts from your linked platforms from here. If you need to add a new contact from another platform, the best way to do this is to go in-game and go to the roster tab and enter the Bungee name and the associated number. You do need to have the correct number to add this friend accordingly. Now to find yours, highlight your name.

This is the most common way to make friends with others on any platform if they’re not already on your friends list. If you happen to be on the same instance and are nearby, you can send them an invite as well. Now, to check to see if this works on multiple platforms, we’ll start with Stadia first. Follow these steps so you can cross-play and cross-save with ease.

  • Go to the Gameplay tab and locate the Cross Play Matchmaking. You can find this under the Cross Play subtitle.
  • Select the Off or On options according to your preference.

Follow the steps to disable the crossplay on Xbox.

  • Make your way to the Settings and choose the General Tab.
  • Now, select the Online Safety & Family option.
  • Move to the Privacy & Online Safety and choose Xbox Privacy.
  • Choose View Details and Customize.
  • Select the Communication and Multiplayer option.
  • You need to set ‘You can join cross-network play’ to “Block” and ‘You can communicate outside of Xbox with voice and text’ to “Block.”

How Can I Find My Bungie ID

It is important to learn your Bungie ID to set crossplay in Destiny 2. This is tied to your Bungie account, as it consists of a primary platform login and a unique 4-digit numerical identifier. Find the login screen from the title screen to find the Bungie ID. You can also check the ‘Roster’ section in the Director. Here, you can see your ID that you can use to share with your buddies to play on different platforms. The other method to find out your Bungie ID is to move into your Director and access the ‘Roster’ screen. Hover over your name on the left side to locate your ID.

What is Crossplay Matchmaking

Crossplay matchmaking in Destiny 2 depends on several factors, like activity type and the platform that you and your teammates are playing on. Gambit and Crucible are competitive game modes that are categorized into two different matchmaking pools. One is for PC players, and the other is for console players like PlayStation, Xbox, and Stadia. The fireteam will be matchmade into the PC player pool for the activity when the console player joins a fireteam containing a PC player. Players can crossplay to participate in Trials of Osiris. Strikes and social spaces are non-competitive activities and game modes. These modes matchmake across all available platforms. However, they are not divided into separate pools. Keep in mind that you can matchmake only with other players on their same platform, whose crossplay is already disabled if your crossplay is turned off.
