Ascent Valorant Map Guide: Strats, Best Agents, Callouts & More Updated Guide 2023

Valorant is a tactical shooter by Riot Games that was released in 2020. When it comes to ranked play, the players have to adapt according to every map. They have to come up with different strategies as not all maps can be won over by using the same strategy again and again.

In this article, being a  valorant coach will be providing you with the best Strats, Best Agents, Callouts & More so you can climb the rank ladder faster and reach the top rank.

When did Ascent come out in Valorant?

Ascent was the first map that was rolled out when Valorant was released. Interestingly, the devs developed a lot of their core gameplay and mechanics in this map, when the game was called Project A 2019. Reyna was also released alongside the map when the game was officially released to the world. Many players use the map to sharpen their aim and gunplay as it has the same design as the Range.

Ascent’s location

The map’s location is somewhere above Venice and is floating mid-air as shown in the Duelist Cinematic. The Cinematic shows that an Agent from Omega Earth detonated the Spike despite the Valorant Protocol’s best efforts causing an event that had cataclysmic consequences. Venice was divided into many pieces but Ascent is the largest piece and became the map that has become a fan favorite in the community.

Ascent Gimmick

Just as we talked about in the Split guide, every map in Valorant comes with its Gimmick that adds to its uniqueness. The gimmick on Ascent is the doors that are present on both sites. One Door is present in A Garden which leads to A site and the other is in Mid which leads to B site. The doors can be closed using the switches present on site and they can be broken as well. They add a layer of complexity to the map and if timed correctly players can use them as choke points to stop the enemy.

Ascent Callouts

Callouts are quite important as they can give your team the general location of the enemy. Use them wisely and correctly to give your team the advantage and take the enemy out in a tactical manner using your gunplay skills and util usage. Here are the callouts that you can use on the Ascent map:

  •         A Switch/Doors
  •         Garden
  •         A Heaven/Rafters
  •         Hell
  •         Generator
  •         Green Box
  •         A Main
  •         Wines
  •         B-Main
  •         Boat House
  •         B-Switch
  •         Stairs
  •         Mid-Market
  •         Double green
  •         Triple green
  •         B-Lane
  •         Pizza
  •         Catwalk
  •         Courtyard

Best Strategies for Ascent

Ascent is a Two site map with a very large Mid Area. Initiator agents can have a huge impact on your team as their util usage can help clear a lot of angles for their team.

When on Attack, your team can try to take mid-control, play for picks and then rush toward whichever site the picks come on as you will have a number’s advantage.

When defending, make sure you don’t give control of A short and Market as it can clear a lot of space for the attackers giving them an easy plant if not defended correctly so make sure you time your util right to stop the push and wait for backup for your team. Ascent is a defensive-sided map and there are a lot of choke points where you can smoke or cut off using

Remember, when you give control of a specific area in the map, make sure you take control of another area from the enemy if you want to win, this applies to all the maps in Valorant. Make sure you coordinate with your team and give out the right callouts so your team can capitalize on the information and adapt accordingly.

Best Agents on Ascent

When playing any map, a good Team combination is to have two duelists, one initiator, one sentinel, and one controller. The duelist creates space for their team using their util, with the initiator using their util to expose the enemy’s location, the sentinel is usually used to hold an area, meanwhile, the controller blocks the enemy’s vision as their util kit contains smokes.

When it comes to Ascent you can pick the following agents to give your team the tactical advantage when it comes to util usage:

  • Killjoy: KJ is a very defensive-minded agent that is picked by default by the majority of the players when playing Ascent. Her setup includes placing the turret on B’s back site and then her Nano swamp on B’s Lane which does a lot of damage. This allows her to hold the B site all alone and thus potentially thwart the enemy to execute the B site, allowing her teammates to stack A and mid. She can also use the nano swarm util and turret in post-plant situations making her a very OP agent on the map just like Sage on Split.

  • Sova: Sova is another good agent that wreaks havoc in the enemy lines either in Attack or Defense. On Attack, players can use their dart on mid to clear out angles and to expose the enemy’s location and thus allowing their team to take mid control. When on Defense, Sova can stop the B rush when he uses the dart on B main and then wall bang the revealed enemy from B lane using the Odin thus stopping the push and forcing the enemy to rotate to the other side.

  • Jett: Jett is another OP agent on the ascent map as her updraft and dash utility allow her to gain control of large areas all alone and get a high number of frags for her team. A good strategy is to use the OP on mid and play-off angles using the updraft util. Having a good Jett on your team on Ascent can be the difference between win and loss. That’s how big an impact Jett can have on the team.

  • Brimstone: Brimstone is a well-balanced controller agent whose util gets only stronger as the round continues. When on Attack he can block the enemy’s sight using his smokes on different choke points thus taking site control for his team. His stim is a particular utility that should be deployed before entering the site as all the team players who pass through it get a movement buff, rapid-fire, and reload speed buff as well for a short period which can take the enemy off guard when timed right.

His molly is particularly useful for taking site control as it does a large amount of damage in its area of effect. When on attack the molly can be used to delay the spike defuse by using it on the spike using lineups. When on defense his molly when combined with smokes can delay the enemy push unless they want to enter the site with reduced HPs thus making him another OP agent for playing on Ascent.

You can pick another agent as well and form until combos with your teammates to get the advantage and win the round.

Remember, gather as much information as you can and relay it to your team so you can form a strategy that helps you gain the advantage to increase the chances of winning the match and climbing that rank ladder. I hope this guide will serve you well in winning your matches when playing Ascent. Happy Gaming!
