Ride of the Nine in Destiny 2 has finally arrived with new weekly challenges, weapons, and multiple rewards. This is the last major content update before The Edge of Fate launches this summer on July 15th. The major selling point of Ride of the Nine is that it’s refreshing three of our existing dungeons. This includes Prophecy, Ghost of the Deep, and Spire of the Watcher. The best part about Ride of the Nine is that it’s free to play. If you don’t own any of the previous expansions, you can still participate and get in some sick loot that includes shiny weapons, adept weapons, and shiny adept weapons. All of this serves as a prologue to the Edge of Fate expansion. The dungeons are on a featured weekly rotator. Spy of the Watcher is the main dungeon, and as the week progresses, you can get more story unlocks and cutscenes. In this guide, we’ll discuss the Rite of the Nine event in Destiny 2 and the different difficulties that you can play on.

How To Get New Exotic Armor in Destiny 2
How the Right of the Nine Works
Right of the Nine dungeon event, which is essentially a dungeon pantheon. It has reprised three of Destiny 2’s current dungeons up to current power with new mechanics, new loot, and new story. With the dungeons themselves being Prophecy, Spyro of the Watcher, and Ghost of the Deep. This event may seem a little confusing at first. The three aforementioned dungeons have entered a rotation where one of them will be the featured dungeon for the week, and all its associated loot is farmable. This week, the first available dungeon is Spire of the Watcher, as visible by the Spire Monument way off in the distance in the third Spire. Here are the objectives of this event in Destiny 2.
- The 3 dungeons will be on a weekly rotation.
- The ultimate goal of this event is to farm the weekly dungeon over and over. This is for the newly reprised corresponding dungeon weapons that originate from them.
- These newer versions come with a refreshed perk pool and even shiny and adept variants featuring multiple perks per column.
On the topic of loot, the majority of the runs I did dropped only weapons. However, I did get one armor piece once, but I believe that was from just the initial completion. Repeat runs seem to only drop weapons, which is a nice change and excellent for farming purposes. All you need to do is play the dungeons, farm the weapons, and get the rolls you want.
How to Begin the Event
When you boot up the game, you’ll notice that the eternity tab has changed slightly to reflect the addition of the new event. To be in the right place, you’ll want to launch the giant right of the nine nodes. This will now take you into the third spire destination from way back in early Destiny 2. Previously, the only way you could get here was by going flawless in the Trials of the Nine. Once you’ve arrived, the Emissary of the Nine will be waiting for you to begin your dungeoneering journey.
What Quests To Collect
Interacting with the emissary will present you with a couple of quests and a list of obtainable items throughout the entire event. You’ve got a new shader, some new emblems, and a host of bounties to complete for XP and currency. The main quests you’re going to want to pay attention to are the ones listed as the elegant arsenal. Since completing these quests is going to reward a guaranteed shiny weapon that also comes with double perks per column.
This week, there are currently two quests available, which are for the scout rifle long arm and the breach wilder flight, both from the Spire of the Watcher. Assuming these quests follow a similar trend to how Into the Light did it back in the day. Each week, there will be two more quests that reward two more new weapons. Note that this week, only one elegant arsenal quest is available, which is for the wilder flight, but expect this to go up week over week. The quests themselves are also quite simple. All they require you to do is complete the weekly feature dungeon on any difficulty of your choosing. Here are the dungeons that you can dive into at a specific time.
| Week | Dungeons | Description |
| May 6 | Spire of the Watcher | Beginning of the Event |
| May 13 | Spire of the Watcher | Dungeon drop is dropped when the enemies are in the Spire |
| May 20 | Ghosts of the Deep | Ghosts of the Deep is playable, and the Spire of the Watcher is cut off |
| May 27 | Ghosts of the Deep | Favored Dungeon: Ghosts of the Deep |
| June 3 | Prophecy | Prophecy is playable, and Ghost of the Deep is eliminated |
| June 10 | Prophecy | Favored Dungeon: Prophecy |
| June 17 | All Dungeons | Each dungeon is playable |
| June 24 | All Dungeons | Favored Dungeon: Ghosts of the Deep |
| July 1 | All Dungeons | Favored Dungeon: Prophecy |
| July 8 | All Dungeons | More resources for Nonary Manifolds are added. |
What is the use of Currency?
Throughout the season, you’ve probably collected at least one or two curios of the nine through completing seasonal challenges. These curios can be exchanged at the emissary for a disappointingly small amount of the new secondary currency that the event rewards you with. Don’t worry, there’s no other use for your curios. So, do make sure to spend them. I went in with 16 curios, which at the time was the current obtainable maximum, and received 520 nonary manifolds. Nonary manifolds are akin to the trophies you’d get from Onslaught during Into the Light and act.
As a side currency, you can use to obtain bonus rewards after a full dungeon clear at the third spire. The chest on the right-hand side lets you spend your non-manifolds to obtain a random weapon from the event. After that, when we get into the dungeon reward section, you’ll see that a full dungeon run usually provides enough to do one pull from the chest. So, it’s essentially one extra drop at the end of a run. However, it may be worth holding on to this currency as it states in the description that there may be greater rewards in store for those who are patient.
Weapons
Each week, the dungeon that is featured can be farmed for its associated weapon pool. Each dungeon comes with four weapons. Spy of the Watcher is currently the weekly dungeon, and is offering the following weapons.
- The breech Grenade Launcher Wilderflight
- The high-impact frame LMG Terminus Horizon
- The heavy burst sidearm Liminal Vigil
- The aggressive frame scout rifle Long Arm.
Throughout all of my play time, I wasn’t able to earn any of the other weapons from the other featured dungeons. So, I’m assuming this works on a weekly lockout where you can only farm the weapons from the dungeon that is currently active. On the topic of farming, you’re also able to attune to a specific weapon of your choosing to increase the chances of it dropping for you. Simply interact with the holographic model of the weapon you want to focus located behind the emissary. So, take advantage of this when farming for a specific drop. You can only farm the guns from the weekly featured dungeon.
Dungeon Difficulty
When attempting to launch the weekly feature dungeon, you’re presented with three different difficulty settings. The first is explorer mode, which is a low-stakes, super chill mode that acts as an introduction to the dungeon that’s mainly aimed at newer players. This mode features no darkness zones, a 5-second respawn timer, weaker enemies, and a damage scalar. This increases your damage the smaller your fire team. So, going in solo is very much doable. Also, the encounters themselves have helpful tool tips to guide players along with the mechanics.
The second difficulty is eternity mode, which acts as the standard difficulty. This is meant for people wanting less of a challenge than the next difficulty, but still want something more engaging than Explorer mode. Eternity mode also features combat modifiers, including Baines, to make it slightly harder. For example, this week it features the brawn modifier, which massively increases your health, but stops all natural health regeneration altogether. Eternity also introduces the dungeon scoring system, which dictates the quality of the loot you receive, but more on this momentarily.
Finally, the last difficulty is ultimatum mode, which is the hardest available challenge set at a fixed minus 20 contest difficulty. The modifiers from Eternity make their return with the addition of not swap. Not swapping makes it so that swapping any exotic armor piece or ammo mismatch weapon makes you lose all of your ability energy. So, you’re encouraged to stick with the same build throughout an encounter to prevent this from happening. This is honestly a whole can of worms.
Naturally, completing the dungeon on Ultimatum mode rewards the best loot. This is the only difficulty option that awards adept dungeon weapons. They have the chance to come with double perks and potentially even triple perks via a shiny variant. So, if you want the best loot, play Ultimatum mode.
Scoring System
Playing the dungeons in Eternity or Ultimatum mode introduces this new dungeon scorer mechanic that’s visible on the left-hand side. The way it works is that if you want the best rewards, don’t die. Because the more times you die, the lower your reward tier becomes. The gold tier is the best possible tier right now. To maintain it, you can only have one person die. If two deaths occur during the same run, you drop down to the silver tier, and your rewards become worse. So, go for gold since you get plentiful loot from it. We also had a silver run where I only got one adept from the final chest. So, make sure you’re not dying.
Rewards for Completing the Rewards
After you’ve completed the dungeon on whatever difficulty you selected, you’re now prompted to return to the emissary. You can finish the quest from earlier and collect your guaranteed shiny weapon and additional rewards. The shiny weapon comes from the first of three elevated platforms surrounding the spire. This is accessed via the elevator located behind the emissary. In this area, there is a chest you can open, which concludes the elegant weaponry quest and rewards you with a randomly rolled shiny weapon. It’s at this point that the weekly quest chain is over. You’re free to head back into the dungeons and farm to your heart’s content for any weapon rolls you may desire. They are indeed repeatedly farmable.
