Hello everyone! Today I will talk about the Strom point map in Apex Legends. As you all know, I work as a professional Apex Legends booster at Immortal Boost. My job is to make sure that the orders I get are completed on time with a high success rate. To get the job done, I have to stay aware of the maps that I play.
Today, I’ve got you covered with everything you need to know about Storm Point. Storm Point was introduced to Apex Legends with the release of season 11. Strom Point is one of the largest maps in Apex Legends, about 15% bigger than World’s Edge. During a looting simulation, the map causes the players to run around for 20 minutes.
I will also discuss tips to help you succeed at Strom Point. From drop shots to rotations to where to find the best loot, I will cover everything that you need to know about Storm Point.
Storm Point Map Layout
I’m sure that you have noticed some pretty serious high ground and elevation changes in the map. Not only do you have a bunch of tall buildings in certain areas, like the barometer and antenna, but you also have a huge amount of elevation change across the entire map. This can make navigating areas of the map a bit troublesome as you get to know your way around.
A simple trick that you can use here is to know that the northeast quadrant of the map tends to have the highest elevation. With the map gradually lowering in height as you make your way down the southwest parts of the map.
The top right corner of the map has the highest elevation, and it gradually lowers as you head towards the bottom left side of the map. This is important to know because it heavily affects how you navigate the map.
If you land up in these northeast POIs and path out their areas, you’ll almost always be coming from higher ground making rotations feel much safer. This can also put you in a much better position to take fights if a team tries to push you or you come across an opportunity for a third party.
The top main locations of Storm Point are as follows:
- North Pad
- The Wall
- High point
- Lightning Rod
- Check Point
- Command Center
- Thunder Watch
- The Mill
- Cascade Falls
- Storm Catcher
- Cenote Cave
- Barometer
- Antenna
- Launch Pad
- Fish Farms
- Gale Station
- Ship Fall
On the Flip side, if you landed a POI outside of this region and path toward this portion of the map then keep in mind that you’re going to be rotating into the high ground. This could put you in some potentially dangerous situations that often require the use of zip lines and grab cannons.
Storm Point Hot Drops for Action
There are a few hot drop spots that you may want to consider landing at if you are looking for a bit more action. Below are the following Hot spots that you need to move into if you are an action-type player.
The first ever tip is going to be those hot zones and we are starting with the command center. First off, there’s an insane number of players that are landing at the command center, and in my opinion, it is the hottest spot on the entire map.
The loot is pretty good here considering the number of players dropping here. The third is that you have a lot of great rotation options between the south and west doors on the bottom, going all the way up top to go out of the north wall, where there is a spider camp, or even taking a gravity lift to go all the way down to the Storm Catcher.
Command Center is such a good spot to go not only because you are getting fights and you have some rotation options but also because it is centrally located on the entire map.
The next hot drop after the command center is The Wall. The wall just seems hot game after game as it has great loot, and you have lots of landing options between the outside buildings or you can go right inside in those double doors. It’s a bit out of the way I will say if the drop ship isn’t in line with the wall though, So, this is something that you may need to consider.
The third spot to mention is going to be The Mill. It’s an extremely popular spit and it’s very small but is very dense with a lot of loot in it. The middleboxes between the two buildings also seem to have scripted loot because there’s always blur or purple armor in them, So, this is something that you might want to consider as you might want to land on the boxes between the two buildings at Mill.
I will say that pros seem to land here quite often because of the loot and the fact that you get a couple of fights.
Checkpoint is one of the player’s favorite spots on Storm Point as it’s multi-height with lots of different buildings and lots of different height variations. It is very vast which means that you can land still in the checkpoint but off to the side and still get some blue if you want to go up in the third-party main area.
The other spot that is worth mentioning is be Barometer. The barometer is another large POI-like checkpoint with a lot of different spots where you can land. It’s a little bit more revealing so if you don’t get a mid or long-range weapon when you do land the barometer then you might have a little bit harder of a time.
In Antenna, a ton of players seem to be landing there as well and you do have a good rotation to the barometer, over to Launch Pad, or up to Jurassic Park in the middle. It does lack loot in the center of the area and if you land in the center of the antenna and you do not have a gun then you are probably not going to make it and there will lot of enemies there too.
Storm Point Underrated Drop Spots
There are a couple of underrated drop spots for you if you want somewhere that’s a little bit more off the grid but also pretty solid.
The first spot is going to the central bunker in the middle of the map outside of Jurassic Park. There’s an insane amount of loot in this bunker. It’s densely packed as it’s also centrally located so you can go anywhere after you move into the bunker.
The second spot is going to be the set of buildings north of the launch pad. These buildings to the north of the launch pad are close to spider camps which means you can get some guns and go over to each of the spider camps as there are three of them. Once you get some guns then go kill these spiders which means you’re just going to have a lot of attachments, extra shields, and ammo. You can also rotate to the launch pad if you want to.
The third spot is going to be the camp to the east of Storm Catcher. Here there are a few buildings, gravity cannons, and a Trident nearby. I find that players aren’t landing on this eastern and northern side of the map that much so this might be somewhere that you may want to go if you want to play a little bit safe and will get some loot.
The entire northeast of the map seems extremely underutilized. There are a couple of reasons for this, one of the drop ships isn’t going up here for right now for some reason. The drop ship is just not kind of starting or ending in this spot This is something that you might want to consider if you do want something a little bit safer and ranked.
Storm Point Looting Ideology
Strom Point requires you to think about looting a little bit differently way than the Olympus, World’s Edge, and Kings Canyon. Loot is more spread out because the map is bigger and the buildings are generally further apart than they are on the other maps. You need to make the most of Storm Points if you are going to spend your time looting as well as spend it with quality time looting. So, if you are not just wasting your time running from building to building.
The spiders have phenomenal loot and they are non-aggressive. Wherever you are landing try to be on the lookout for a nearby adjacent camp, get the guns, and run over to the nests. You can kill the spiders in the nest just within 30 seconds and then you can get an insane amount of loot all densely packed into one area.
Prowlers are the other option that you could fight but they are a little bit risky as they do more damage and take more time to kill plus, they are a bit more annoying as they are aggressive. So, if another team does come to fight you while you are fighting the prowlers then you could have the prowler hitting you back while you are trying to fight enemies.
Bonus Loot
There is a bonus death box at some of the prowler camps. There are purple or blue boxes in the middle of them. Take note of these go in and get that loot it’s super quick and easy. I find there’s usually a lot of good stuff in these boxes. There could be stuff like purple armor and R301. So, do not overlook these death boxes, and also don’t get bamboozled thinking that someone died right here, it’s just a box for the prowler camp.
Storm Point Best Landing Spot
Storm Catcher
The first spot that I am going to recommend is the Storm Catcher. This Poi has some great loot and access to a ton of master camp. It’s also located in the northeast section of the map allowing for some smoother rotations once you’re ready to move. To play this drop, loot up then instantly go to the prowler camp to the southwest and the spiders to the east.
Between Strom Catcher’s loot and the camps, your squad will have a solid loadout and some good progress on your shields. From here you can either rotate north for a safer route that goes into the mountains or you can go south towards the launch pad for more camps and quick access to some other southern POIs.
Either way, you go, this area of the map has a lot of gravity cannons to help you get across the map quickly. If you’ve ever landed here, it’s insane how fast you can make it across this eastern part of the map with the cannons. You have to be careful about it but if the zone is on your tail and you need to cover some ground fast then cannons have you covered.
Keep in mind that the encampments outside the main locations around the map also have some solid loot. This drop has many of these camps scattered around to the east, so make sure you do not sleep on them if you land here.
Cenote Cave
The other best spot to land is Cenote Cave. This Poi has some great loot and it’s pretty segmented from the rest of the map, making it safe from fast rotations from any enemies. You might need to win out versus one other team but there’s plenty of loot to go around.
If you manage to take control of this location then you could be well situated for the next step of your match. If you are looking to get involved in some fights then rotating to Barometer has got you covered. If you want a safer route then you could always head north to the Mill and some other monster camp options.
This tends to be one of the safer starts for the southern side of the map with there being a lot fewer options. So, if you are looking to play these lower locations then give this start a try and I’m sure your games are going to start feeling a lot less hectic.
The Wall
In the last drop location, we’ve got the wall. This spot can be a little hot but if you’re looking for a bit of a more contested drop with a big payoff then this is your go-to option. Here is a ton of loot and it’s well located for a variety of reasons. You can rotate west to the wall towards North Pad or North to the extra camps for some more loot.
If you’re looking for some action then you can always hit the cannon towards the high point for a long rotation around the north side of the map or if you are feeling spicy then you can take an even more aggressive rotation by heading towards the command center and cascade falls to the south.
I would recommend being careful rotating into the command center because this spot is super-hot as we discussed earlier.
Storm Point Gravity Cannons
Gravity Cannons can help you navigate the map more quickly. These will launch you way faster than you just hiking it across the map on foot. Learning where these are located and the potential rotations, can help you rotate more quickly.
Just keep in mind that these gravity cannons can also be your biggest enemy if you’re not careful. Not only do they make a ton of noise to attract any nearby squads but if there is an enemy team at the location you are launching into or just straight up camping the cannons then you can launch right into your death.
Many cannons are vanguard before you commit to the launch but oftentimes this isn’t the case. This is another reason that the higher area of the map to the northeast that we just touched on is so strong. If you are rotating out of that area then you have the height to see the landing spot on the other side of the cannon.
If you are climbing your way into this area then you’ll often not be able to see if there’s potential danger at all. The same sentiments stand for many of the cannons towards the center of the map. Many of these lines of sight are blocked by trees or landscapes and they’re centrally located to allow for a lot of potential squads to hear or see you launching.
It’s best to avoid gravity cannons that are in the center of the map without being confident that there isn’t another team waiting for you at the end of your launch.
Storm Point PVE Camps
Another major aspect of Storm Point that should not be overlooked is the monster camps on the map. The prowler and spider camps can offer great loot opportunities and help get your Evo charge. The smart loot of these enemies especially the prowlers can give you some solid drops to help round out your loadout. It’s best to do these camps when you have the weapons you’re looking to run for a bit as this will make sure you’re getting loot that’s valuable to you.
If you get a drop with decent loot and you know there’s not any enemy team nearby clear out these nearby camps for some quick early power. They are not only good at the start of the game but they can be valuable throughout the entire match to finish off the evolution of your EVO, round out those last couple of attachments, or even top off your ammo and meds.
The prowler camps will have a random death box in them that has a chance to contain purple rarity items including Evo shields. The northern area of the map tends to have a lot more wildlife, which makes these drops much more suitable for players looking to farm camps actively in the game. They offer a nice change of pace compared to instantly pushing an enemy team and they can smooth out your game as you move across the map.
Storm Point Worst Locations
There are some landing spots that you should look to use or avoid and first I’m going to discuss the few that you should try to avoid at all costs. These include a barometer, antenna, and cascade falls.
These are the locations that have a good loot but also involve a ton of risk. Barometer and antenna are both very open large POIs with a lot of hype to them They do have some stellar loot and they’re centrally located on the map to allow for some quick rotations to other areas. There are also very hot drops here due to the good loot and the fact that they’re usually pretty close to any drop ship. Not to mention that they are easy to rotate too for the same reasons that it’s not easy to rotate from them.
With Gravity cannons and tridents, it’s so easy to get to these areas quickly from all the locations around them and even if you manage to win out the first couple of fights for the Poi, there are surely going to be more squads on the way.
Many of the same concerns apply to cascade falls. It’s a pretty hot drop and it has a ton of nearby POIs that can rotate to it. With a spot like a command center, the wall, and the checkpoint is just a quick sprint away. This is a great location on the map and can be the target of many of your rotations and third parties.
When To Rotate in Storm Point
You have to rotate earlier than later. Mountains on this map block rotation and it is done on purpose. Storm Point emphasizes rotations in a big way and this means Respawn has put a lot of these zones in a specific spot to the point where you need to rotate early or you are just going to be cut off by a mountain. So, be mindful of this.
Rings one and two are not a huge deal but as soon ring two is done moving then you need to see where that zone is going because you do not want to be stuck on ring three in your back when you’re just trapped between the ring and a mountain and you just can’t get around it.
At the high point, there is the only balloon on the map, it is at the highest point. You could take that balloon all the way up at the high point and use it to get all the way down to the wall. You can dunk yourself into the building at the Wall. If you want to go to the Wall but maybe it’s too hot, you could land a high point and then take that balloon and instantly jump on the team without them expecting it. You could also take that balloon and go to the command center up top but it’s not the same as flying down the mountain to the wall.
The final tip for the rotation portion is just going to be to utilize rotation Legends. Rotation Legends on Storm Point are an absolute must. If you do not have one on your team then you need to be utilizing the trident or gravity cannons.
Valkyrie, Horizon, Octane, and Pathfinder are the most picked Legends and probably will have one on your squad every time. Make sure that you are using their abilities to the fullest. Ash will also help you locate teams that have died which means you can improve the flow of your game because you can better dictate where enemy squads were fighting.
Key Takeaways for The Best Rotations on Storm Point
- Due to the gravity cannons, traversing the map is rather easy.
- The Northeastern section of Storm Point is often the most lucrative part.
- Having Legends like Horizon, Valkyrie, and Crypto on the team can help with rotation.
- You’ll quickly fall behind if you get bogged down in a single place.
Catch a Ride
Storm Point is the massive map in the game. Take advantage of the tridents as they are specifically scattered around the outside of the map and they are not utilized enough by players. They were intentionally placed just on the outside of the map to help you rotate into the center of the map.
Most players have not been taking tridents because on Olympus they feel a little bit more natural to use and on Storm Point, they do not feel natural to use. You should be utilizing the tridents and what I mean by this is to rotate in specific areas where you may be able to pick up a trident so if you land somewhere like a fish farm then you can go west to Gale station and then pick up a trident.
If you land somewhere like North Pad then you could go south and pick up the trident and take the trident right into the mail to get some fights. In some cases, you may not need the trident because you might be landing more in the center if you are landing on that outer ring then don’t forget about this tip to use it.
Best Legend to Play on Storm Point
There are some Legends that I recommend you to play on Storm Point or your squad must have one of the Legends that I am going to discuss now.
Ash in Storm Point
The first Legend that I want to talk about is Ash. She in this map returns to being the premier Movement Legend. The Storm Point has a lot of very vertical areas and very tall heights, and Ash’s Ultimate is the key to getting to those points before your opponents. Also, you can quickly push a fight safely or get away from a fight safely.
Her underused ability canto scan death boxes and give information on where fights are happening across the map can allow you to make a very informed decision on which way to rotate or push in.
Crypto in Storm Point
The next Legend is going to be Crypto. The key thing is knowing how to toss out his drone to effectively hit the other team. If you have that skill down and with Storm Point being such a wide-open map at times and if you can pop those team’s bubbles late or while they’re out in the open then it can be just free KP. His drone can recover banners and hit beacons from a distance.
Horizon in Storm Point
The third Legend that is best suited for Storm Point is Horizon. Just like Ash, her tactical here is the key to moving your team to heights. Well, her tactical is the strong point of her kit when it comes to this map. If you do have the skill down when it comes to throwing her ultimate properly, you can do a ton of damage and just completely remove teams with grenades, allowing your teammates to shoot them.
Don’t forget her Ult can be thrown on the other side of walls and works, it will slow the enemies down and pull them. So, she is a great offensive Legend to use.
Valkyrie & Gibraltar in Storm Point
Valkyrie in Storm Point is massive for the rotations on a massive and tall map. When it comes to Gibraltar, they are also everywhere paired up with Valkyrie to safely Ult away, and Gibraltar always gives you mobile cover if you get caught in the open.
Bangalore in Storm Point
On a map with a lot of space, Bangalore’s smoke can give you that cover that just needs to rotate. She is great at fighting with her enhanced speed and her Ultimate is great for creating opening push or creating some space to heal. She can be paired up with any team as she is extremely flexible and if you can learn to use her smoke effectively and not blind your teammates then she can be an asset on this map and any team.
Tips To Play on Storm Point
Let’s now talk about a few general tips and information for you and your game.
Prowler Issues
The first tip that I do want to mention is to avoid prowlers in the mid-to-end game. This is any zone to shrink or later in the match. This is huge just because prowlers at the end game cannot be any more annoying. If you are in a fight and a prowler comes up, hits you in the back for 60 Shields, and you lost that fight because of some just random prowler hitting you.
A huge rotation that you want to avoid is the Jurassic Park area right in the center of the map. There are tons of prowlers here and more times than not the map wants you to rotate through here because it is the center of the map. Just stay away from the prowler’s camps during the end game if you can.
Loud Noises
If you are noticing a very loud noise in the northeast corner of the map up near the lightning rod then you are correct that noise happens every few minutes or every minute or so. It is the physical lightning rod POI that makes a very loud shock noise because it is getting hit by lightning.
It can get mistaken for certain abilities like someone hitting Octane Pad or someone hitting a gravity cannon.
Distracting Players
Use the spiders as a distraction. A lot of times spider camps are nested in areas where enemy players going to rotate which means if they rotating through a spider camp and you are holding them in there then you can just shoot all the spider nests that are on the wall and those spiders will hop out. You can then start shooting the players that are on the camp.
This is something that is very situational but it does work out because they do not waste ammo and shields on those spiders and you can push up and clean them up while they are getting hit in the back by all the spiders. You can also camp out in spider nest areas, waiting for enemies to rotate through them.
Baiting Gravity Cannons
This tip is of gravity cannon baiting. You can bait enemies by stepping into the gravity cannon and then running off. The cannon will make the noise of activating but you will not be taking it. This works against chasing enemies or enemies camping on the other side thinking that you’re coming but you’re not or they’re chasing you and they think that you went in the cannon so they’ll go in the cannon themselves.
Simply walk into the cannon and then walk on to the other side and just wait for them to pass by and it does confuse enemies. You can trap strafing cannons if you are a PC warrior but this is not for controller players. By doing this, you can launch yourself pretty much at a 45-degree angle from where the cannon is.
Movement in Cannons
This tip has all to do with gravity cannon and movement. You can actually move your character a little bit in the cannon. If you hold forward or backward then you can move yourself a little bit slower or go a little bit further.
This will help you to reach certain areas or prevent yourself from getting to certain areas if you don’t want to go far because maybe someone’s camping there. Likewise, you can also crouch or stand in the cannon. This will dictate your movement if you crouch while in the cannon then you’ll have a little bit lower arc which means you will not go quite as far. If you’re standing then you will go further.
You can also do side-to-side movement so if you do hit the cannon then just hold left or hold right. You will not end up on the center platform where there is the cannon’s exit. If you do land in the center of the cannon then it pretty much just kills your movement and momentum but if you do on the sides of the cannon rather than on the center pad it will send you very far.
If you slide jump while you’re in the cannon then you will go slightly further, it isn’t too fat but if you want to get a little bit more distance out of that cannon shot then you could slide jump in the cannon.
Hide and Seek
There are several rat spots on Storm Point, and it’s definitely because of the foliage and mountains. If you are going to any of the alley cannons on the western, northern, or eastern sides of the map, you can fly onto the sides of the walls and hide out of sight.
This is very important if you’re ranked. You will be able to get out of the line of sight of enemies, and you could get a slightly higher placement. You can even hide above the wall gravity cannon door and up on the little ledge and wait for someone to come in, and then you can shoot them.
