Hello, my name is Warren and I am work with Dota 2 MMR boosting squad at Immortal Boost this guide is about Kunkka because Kunka is one of my Favourite hero. He is one of the Tanky-Core heroes that are considered to be strong, Although Kunkka requires a little time to come online, this Kunkka Dota 2 guide will show you that this hero is so impactful and worth the pick in your rank matches.

Dota 2 Kunka

Introduction

Kunkka is a hero who can be played in every core position whether Mid-lane, Off-lane, or carry but in this meta, Kunkka is a perfect choice to play as Mid-lane and Off-lane. He’s a strategic fighter who depends on his well-placed abilities to stomp the team fights as Kunkka requires good timing, tactical thinking, and positioning. This hero can be so tanky to front line all the incoming spells and a good space maker.

Item Build & Skill Build

According to the current patch 7.35d, this is the skill build you should make.

Skill Build

  • Take the Torrent on the level 2.
  • Summons a rising torrent that, after a short delay, hurls enemy units into the sky, stunning, dealing damage, and slowing movement speed.

,

  • Further, upgrade the skill according to the following sequence (13,14,16)

Tip: When casting Torrent on an enemy without a leading disable, try to either cancel your animation to fool the enemy if they can see you or cast it from the fog by taking advantage of its extremely long cast range.

Kunka abilities
  •  Tidebringer should be taken on level 1.
  • Kunkka’s legendary sword grants increased damage and cleaves a large area of effect in front of him for a single strike
  • When using Tidebringer, it is best to attack a nearby creep to inflict cleave on all enemies behind it, taking advantage of its high cleave damage
  • Further, you can upgrade the Blink Stike according to the following sequence (3,5,7)
Kunka abilities

Note: Tidebringer does not work against wards and buildings, and leaving it on auto-cast can cause it to cast before it is needed.

  • X Marks the Spot should be taken later on Level 4.
  • Targets a friendly or enemy Hero, marks their position with an X and returns them to it after several seconds. Kunkka can trigger the return at any time during the duration. Lasts twice as long on allied heroes.
  • You can upgrade this ability according to the following sequence (8,9,10)
Kunka abilities

Note: X Marks the Spot lasts twice on Allies. This gives it a very powerful tool with up to 8 seconds to scout, initiate, tower dive, or pull back to safety.

Note: X Mark yourself and run forward to kill a dangerous wave with Tidebringer if opponents don`t have Eul’s Scepter.

  • Summons a Ghost Ship that sails through the battle before smashing apart, damaging and stunning all enemies caught near the wreckage. Allied heroes touched by the Ghostship are given a swig of The Admiral’s Rum, receiving bonus movement speed and a delayed reaction to incoming damage
  • Always level up to this ability whenever it is up on level 6, level 12, level 18
Kunka abilities

Tip: Ghostship takes a lot of mana, as Kunkka has a low mana pool, its long delay means that landing the spell requires a large amount of crowd control or the element of surprise

Note: Get Aghanim’s Shard on Kunkka which grants her a new ability called Tidal Wave, that spawns behind Kunkka. Deals damage and drags enemies along it for the duration. Enemies cannot attack while being dragged.

Note: Always buy Aghanim’s Scepter, granting him with the ability Torrent Storm which Releases a visible Torrent upon use in a random area within 1100 range of the target position once every 0.25 for 4 seconds.

Early gameplay / Mid game / Late game

Early gameplay (0:00 – 12:00)

Kunkka is a strong hero in the early phase of the game, make sure Tidebringer hits the opponent as that is your main harassing tool as well as the main ability to farm quicker. Kunkka should focus on the farm and try to get his basic items e.g. Phase boots, 2x Bracers ( which makes him a little tanky), and a Magic Stick as soon as possible to start playing aggressively. Once you hit your level 6 try to force a gank with the help of your support, mostly targeting the weak heroes who have low health points.

Mid gameplay (12:00 – 25:00)

At this stage of the game, farm your core items to be impactful in the game, and communicate with your support to stack the ancient camps to get the items faster. Use Smoke of Deceit to initiate and do aggressive fights, make sure to create space for your carry. Help your team to regen themselves by using X Marks the Spot and Teleport out to the base to push the game. After winning team fights make sure to get the objectives to reach the winning goal. In fights, if possible align Ghostship in such a way that it goes over most of your allies for Rum buff

Late gameplay  (25:00 – 60:00)

At the late game stage, you become so tanky and harder for enemies to kill you make sure to use your Torrent Storm in the team fights to disrupt enemies from using spells and disjoint their positioning. Do not forget to use Tidal Wave defensively to save your teammates and make enemies’ initiation fail. If you combo your all spells with Refresher Orb in the late game you can win a team fight easily or either force enemies to use BKB. Your main combo in every fight should be  X Mark into Torrent then Ghostship following up with Tidal Storm. If you do it correctly with Refresher you can win every fight so practice it before the Demo or the Normal match to gain a perfect grip.

Counters of Kunkka

Lifestealer

  • Rage can disengage Kunkka’s X Marks the Spot.

Ursa

  • Enrage can be activated before being hit by Ghostship to prevent most of the damage.

Silencer

  • Global Silence can disable Kunkka’s spell-casting from anywhere on the map, even if Kunkka is in BKB form at the time

Mirana

  • Leap allows Mirana to easily escape Torrent and Ghostship

Phoenix

  • This hero destroys Kunkka’s combo entirely, as it can’t be affected by spells while using Supernova

Omniknight

  • Guardian Angel makes allies and Omniknight itself spell immune to all physical damage, effectively causing Tidebringer to do no damage

Outworld Destroyer

  • Astral Imprisonment can destroy Kunkka’s combo pretty well by saving himself or the ally.

Juggernaut

  • Juggernaut Blade Fury can be used to dodge Kunkka’s X Marks the Spot and other abilities as well.

Rubick

  • Rubick can steal Kunkka’s abilities like X marks the Spot, which can be devastating for Kunkka and his team.

Sniper

  • Headshot makes it harder for Kunkka to position/escape and makes it difficult for Kunkka to hit with Tidebringer.
