The Root of Nightmares is a 6-player raid in Destiny 2. It’s part of the Lightfall expansion. The raid takes place in a partially destroyed Pyramid Ship, and players must battle their way through a series of encounters to reach the final boss, Nezarec, the Final God of Pain.

The raid is divided into four encounters:

The Gardener’s Rise: In this encounter, players must activate a series of nodes in a specific order to grow a seed. If they make a mistake, the nodes will reset and they will have to start over.

The Chasm: In this encounter, players must divide into two teams and activate nodes on opposite sides of a chasm. This requires them to use man cannons to travel between the two sides. If they fall into the chasm, they will be teleported back to the start of the encounter.

The Temple of Darkness: In this encounter, players must defeat a series of enemies and then face off against a powerful boss.

Nezarec, the Final God of Pain: This is the final encounter, where players must defeat Nezarec, the Final God of Pain. Nezarec has a variety of powerful attacks, and players must use all of their skills to defeat him. The fight is made even more challenging by the fact that Nezarec’s health regenerates over time.

The primary mechanic of Root of Nightmares requires players to grow a seed by connecting multiple nodes, thus creating a chain. You start the chain by stepping into the seed field and shooting it.

This gives you either the “Field of Light” or the “Flux of Darkness” buff, depending on if the seed you shoot is a light or dark seed. You’ll need to take this buff to a node. You’ll know which node you need to go to because a beam of light will be pointing to it, as shown above.

The node that needs to be activated will also be the only one with the sphere. You’ll step next to the sphere and shoot it to activate it. Once you shoot the node, you’ll lose the buff, indicating that the activation was successful.

Once that node is active, you must return to get the “Field of Light” or “Flux of Darkness” buff again. This will be at the original starting point for the first few nodes, but as the chain grows, it can be at any previously completed nodes.
