Eichenwalde is a Hybrid map in Overwatch & Overwatch 2 and was released on 1 September 2016, this makes it the 14th map added to the game. Eichenwalde is perhaps one of Blizzard’s most detailed maps in Overwatch 2. I’ll cover all the information you need about the Eichenwalde map in Overwatch 2, health pack locations, the best team composition and strategy, and much more on the Eichenwalde map.
Since I am working with the Overwatch 2 Boost squad here at Immortal Boost, I have to stay updated so that I can perform my job better when my client asks me to play any hero or just for high KDA they ask me to play tank heroes or support heroes only.
Eichenwalde Description
Eichenwalde is available in the hybrid mode and is set primarily in three areas: The Castle Interior, The Castle Ground, and The Town. Eichenwalde is an Escort/Assault hybrid map set in a deserted village in Stuttgart, Germany. The leader of the Balderich von Adler, Crusaders, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army.
Outgunned and Outnumbered, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. The German military was able to push back the Omnic offensive and win the fight as credit goes to their valiant efforts. While the opposing team did everything in its power to thwart the keep from being breached, one team must escort a battering ram to Eichenwalde Castle to reclaim Balderich’s remains from their current resting place on this map.

Eichenwalde Tips and Strategies
Here are some of the important tips and tricks that you need to know when playing on the Eichenwalde map in Overwatch 2.
Take Advantage of Pitfalls
Eichenwalde features multiple pitfalls, located along the bridge toward the castle doors and on the sides of the map. Take advantage of these environmental hazards by using Heroes with pushing abilities like Reinhardt, Orisa, and Lucio.
Prioritize Mobile Heroes on Attack
Eichenwalde is notable for its great defensive high ground and numerous tight choke points, which attackers may find difficult to push through. To quickly maneuver through flanking routes and close the gap with crucial enemy targets, we recommend using high-mobility characters like Genji and Winston to get through them.
Hanzo Excels at Eichenwalde Defense
Hanzo is an incredibly strong pick all teams should consider when playing defense on Eichenwalde. his Sonic Arrow is one of his greatest assets on the map, which provides his team with vital information about enemy movement along the map’s cramped terrain. To cover the map’s narrow pathways and to easily take out groups of foes hiding behind the payload, his Dragonstrike is also incredibly strong on Eichenwalde.

Team Explanation
This unique team uses Eichenwalde’s high vantage points and narrow pathways to its strength, with Heroes that excel in holding down defensive positions and in attacking from above. Choosing these heroes will surely dominate this map in Overwatch 2.
Alternative Tanks
D.Va: Eichenwalde’s cramped and narrow terrain makes D.Va an excellent alternative Tank on this map. She can quickly dispatch crucial targets up close with her Micro Missiles and Fusion Cannons and her Defense Matrix efficiently covers her team from projectiles. Her Boosters are also great for shoving foes and disrupting enemy positioning into the map’s environmental hazards. Self-destruct is highly effective when positioned properly along Eichenwalde’s tight corridors.
Orisa: Orisa is a great alternative Tank for both attacking and defending teams on Eichenwalde because she has a well-balanced kit. Fortify and Javelin Spin allow her to efficiently absorb damage, with the latter also capable of blocking projectiles and disrupting enemy positioning. You can use her Terra Surge and Energy Javelin for crowd control and it is effective when used around the map’s choke points and objectives.
Sigma: Just like Reinhardt, Sigma excels at covering Eichenwalde’s narrow pathways with his Kinetic Grasp and Experimental Barrier. He also has potent crowd-control abilities in Gravitic Flux and Accretion, with the latter being significantly effective when used from the map’s choke points and high ground.
Wrecking Ball: Wrecking Ball is another potent alternative Tank for both teams. He takes full advantage of Eichenwalde’s terrain with Grappling Hook, Roll, and Piledriver to quickly and efficiently eliminate backline targets and disrupt the opposing team’s positioning. His Minefield is also an excellent area denial tool that covers choke points with high-damage explosives and objectives.
Zarya: Zarya is an excellent pick for both defending and attacking team on Eichenwalde. She absorbs heavy firepower with Projected Barrier, Particle and tearing through groups of enemies with ease, turns the stored damage around on her foes with Particle Cannon. Graviton Surge is also extremely effective for tight corridors and disrupting grouped-up teams around Eichenwalde’s objectives.
Alternative Damage
Hanzo: Hanzo is the best marksman for defending teams in Eichenwalde. He can provide information about enemy positioning with Sonic Arrow and can land lethal charged headshots with his Storm Bow. His Dragonstrike ultimate is also capable of eliminating entire enemy teams when used along the map’s narrow pathways and choke points.
Reaper and Sombra: These two heroes are great alternative flankers on Eichenwalde in Overwatch 2. Reaper can reach vantage points and flanking routes with Shadow Step before dealing massive damage up close with his Hellfire Shotguns and Death Blossom. Sombra maneuvers the map unseen with Translocator and Stealth and takes on a more disruptive role with her EMP and Hack.
Soldier: 76: Soldier: 76 is a well-rounded Damage pick for attacking and defending teams as he has potent Hitscan with excellent burst damage with Helix Rockets and Heavy Pulse Rifle. He can also quickly maneuver and reposition around Eichenwalde with Sprint which let him flank from multiple angles and set up devastating Tactical Visor plays from the map’s high ground.
Alternative Supports
Brigitte: Brigitte is an excellent alternative support for both teams’ team. She offers great defensive capability against diving teams with Shield Bash and Whip Shot and can reliably support her frontline with Rocket Flail and Inspire. Rally is also useful for attacking and defending objectives as it allows her to move around faster and rapidly while providing temporary health to her teammates.
Mercy: Mercy can follow her mobile teammates around using Guardian Angel and provide constant healing and damage boosts with Caduceus Staff. When she uses Valkyrie, especially since she can take advantage of Eichenwalde’s ample cover and verticality, her mobility and utility are further enhanced. Mercy also provides her team with Resurrect, which has the potential to break stalemates and turn team fights around.
Kiriko: To escape danger and reach teammates in need, Kiriko can quickly slip through Eichenwalde’s cramped terrain with Swift Step. Kitsune Rush and Protection Suzu are also significantly effective when used along the map’s choke points and narrow streets. Kiriko’s Ofuda and Kunai also pair well with the map’s vantage points, letting her efficiently support her team with healing and damage from afar.
Eichenwalde is a verifiable town in Overwatch 2. Players choose to invest some energy in getting to know the different pathways and understanding the situations from which they can be gone.
