Xdefiant just launched its ranked mode in season 1 on June 2 and this game mode was highly anticipated by the pro Gamers and Casual fan base having a good rank scene will help any game grow and flourish.
I’m going to be focusing solely on ranked because there is actually quite a lot to go through. XDefiant is already pretty cut-throat, but the new ranked mode will present a unique challenge for uber-competitive players. But before hitting play, it’s worth looking at the XDefiant ranking system, how to unlock them, how it works, and tips to improve your rank in XDefiant.
Since the release of the game, XDefiant has been without a ranked mode, but that hasn’t prevented players from grinding hard in casual game modes.Ubisoft has added a new wrinkle with ranked, a game mode specifically for serious players looking to earn RP (Ranked Points) so, it’s safe to say XDefiant is inherently an extremely competitive game.

XDefiant Ranking System & Ranks
XDefiant’s Ranked mode is 4v4, as opposed to the unranked modes in the game, which are 6v6. The ranked mode involves specific game modes with rule changes from unranked variants. The most hardcore FPS players can jump into the 4v4 playlist, sweating it out in a more competitive environment as compared to casual play. By doing so, you can climb the ranks, unlock exclusive rewards, and even push for a spot among the Top 500 best players in the world.
Game modes
Ubisoft has announced four different game modes for XDefiant ranked, with Capture the Flag available soon. The familiar game modes will work slightly differently in competitive queues in XDefiant Season 1. A total of four playable game types are starting with Ranked mode in season one.
· Occupy
· Domination
· Zone Control
· Escort
XDefiant may introduce new modes to Ranked play after a testing period, such as Capture the Flag, which has been included in season one.
Rule changes
Occupy: Zones rotate in a predetermined order. Therefore, aiming won’t be enough, but a team with a better grasp of the rotating order may get the advantage.
Domination: Each team plays one side for 5 minutes, then exchanges sides to play again. The 10-minute mode will be divided into two halves.
Zone Control: Teams take turns as defenders and attackers. Defenders can push back an attacker’s progress to the nearest quarter of the progression circle. The defending team will be able to lessen the attacking team’s capture progress by standing in a zone.
Escort: No major changes from the public match ruleset, so this game mode will play the same way as it does in casual.
XDefiant Ranks
XDefiant’s Ranked Mode offers up seven distinct tiers. Each has 10 levels to progress through to proceed through to the next division.

How to unlock ranked in XDefiant
The minimum level required to play ranked is level 40. Once you reach level 40, you will automatically see the ranks in the game and play in ranked maps to boost your rank. A lot of players get confused as to why the ranks are not appearing in Season 1. The only condition to play ranked in XDefiant is to reach level 40. To increase your XDefiant level you must fulfil the following conditions.

How does ranking work
In XDefiant, Ranked Mode serves as the competitive counterpart to casual play. It’s here where wins truly matter and so does your performance in the match. You’ll be gradually improving your Skill Rating by playing well, racking up kills, damage, objective time, and most importantly, victories. The matches will get tougher as your skill rating is higher. There are 7 divisions in total, ranging from Bronze up to Legends, more on that below.
Teams can line up together as full squads of four up to the Diamond rank. This is possible so long as no specific player has a Skill Rating 15 levels outside of the squad’s average. When you reach Diamond, you’ll only be able to queue alone or as part of a Duo.
In simple terms, XDefiant ranked mode will be played between two teams of four players, matched based on skill. This means you’ll be queued against those who are within your Matchmaking Rating. If you win, you gain Ranked Points, and vice versa.
To keep things fair in XDefiant, the ranked system will match you against players within 15 levels above or below your current rank. You may also call this your hidden MMR pool. While progress purely depends on winning and losing, your personal performance will be taken into account while distributing RP.
For example, you’ll be granted less RP compared to the top scorer on your team if you have been bot-fragging in a game your team won. Points earned from contributing to the objective will also be the biggest factor.
This will help individual players not to bear the full brunt of a loss due to poor team members. In other words, if you’re the top scorer and your team loses, you’ll lose less RP compared to other players.
Ranking System in Depth
In XDefiant ranked mode, you need a total of 100 points to jump to the next level. For example, if you’re Bronze, you’ll need 100 RP to become Bronze 2 and so on until you reach Silver. Losing RP will obviously slow down the progress. If want to 4-stack, you would want to hunt players within your same MMR pool, which is anywhere below or above 15 levels of your current rank in XDefiant.
For example, if you’re Gold 1, you can only queue with players above under Ruby 5 and Bronze 5. This limitation gets severe on ranks above Diamond, where you can only play as duos.
Rank reset will happen every new season. By default, the reset rank for all players will be Silver unless you’re Bronze. In that case, you’ll start from the same level you were in the last season. New players will be glad to know that they’ll be able to practice in the ranked mode without losing their precious RP. Ubisoft has called it the Ranked Practice Period, which will be valid for one week ahead of every season of XDefiant.

The top Rank players in XDefiant are M8A1___, NastyD7, and Azzy023. M8A1 has a 100%-win ratio in XDefiant and has 15.69 Kills/Match, 108 matches won, and 1694 total kills in the game. M8A1 has the bronze rank in the XDefiant.
NastyD7 is standing on the silver rank with 76.97 win%. NastyD7 has 55.27 kills/match with 1,915 matches won and has a total of 137,500 kills in the game. Azzy023 is on the silver rank with a win ratio of 64.94. Azzy023 has 116.83 Kill/Match with the 50 matches won and 8,996 kills in the game.

Teamwork
The important part of your success and ranked is going to be teamwork. When playing solo, it’s extremely important to call out if you want to climb up to the top. Obviously, it’s a new game so you might not know what certain areas are called. The other important and difficult aspect of teamwork is team challing or double chall. For those that aren’t familiar with this term, this is when you and your teammate challenge out an angle or a corner together rather than separately.
Ability Use
Death Sec is a great way to hard counter phantoms but not every shield needs to be acted and not every bubble needs to be shut down. Saving abilities for the right time is necessary, especially in the early stage of ranked where there can be more than one of the same faction on the team. There is no exact time when you should or shouldn’t be using your abilities as it’s something you’ll have to get a feel for. Use DedSec when the team’s phantom is on the control point with their teammates.
Reading mini-map
Learn how to watch and read the mini-map. Echelons do make this a little complicated sometimes as you’ll never see an echelon red dot on a mini-map because of their passive but for everyone else it’s a huge indicator as to where they are.
Positioning
To start us off I want to go over the term God spots. These are places on the map that make you either an extremely hard kill or a position that allows you to hold down a large portion of the map. Almost every map has at least one God Spot. Finding these areas on a map and consistently playing them will increase your success rate by 10-fold.
Having a Role
Similar to other competitive games most of the time players on a team will have a role. Whether you’re the aggressive SMG who’s frontlining or maybe you’re the flanker who takes routes and play responds and on the flip side you could be the fast AR who likes to run it down and take space. All these play styles can succeed but having a whole team doing the same thing typically won’t work.
XDefiant ranked rewards
Players will gain some sort of reward that will reflect their ranked achievements at the end of each season. A list of the top 500 players in XDefiant will be released on the game’s official blog. These players will also obtain an exclusive reward, starting from season 2. The reward for the top 500 players teased in the official trailer is a bright orange M4A1 skin. For season 2, Ubisoft has already announced an LVOA-C skin for the top players, which is a newly announced weapon in XDefiant.
