S-Tier

Astra Yao

Astra Yao is a top support character in Zenless Zone Zero. She is a versatile character but her essential skills render her immobile. The best character that synergizes well with her is Miyabi and Yanagi or Jane and Burnice. She enters the Idyllic Cadenza state and swaps between agents. She provides you bonus for regular and crit damage, making you an invulnerable character to harm. Astra Yao is an active agent in combat. Her ultimate not only provides a burst of health but also changes the following quick assists into chain attacks.

Burnice

Burnice is a DPS character in ZZZ and she excels in providing damage support. This makes her the best character for units who love to hog the spotlight. She inflicts Scorch on enemies, which lets allies inflict Afterburn assist damage on top of their usual output in her Nitro-Fuel Cocktail State. Her Burnice’s EX special allows her to release a fire in a forward AoE attack. This allows her to create heat with an opportunity to trigger Burn. Burnice can dance around the combat arena to stay out of harm’s way with her quick-use equivalent. Her effectiveness in combat is based on how quickly she generates and maintains heat, and extended downtime similar to that of the Jane Doe and the Qingyi. She can extend heat’s uptime across most battles with minimal fuss by moving her increased basic attack. She is the best addition to Burn, Disorder, or Anomaly team comp in Zenless Zone Zero.

Caesar

Caesar is a Physical Support unit that comes with several unique buffs built into her kit. She buffs her entire team with her Radiant Aegis shield, once Caesar appears on the battlefield. Caesar allows her teammates to gain a shield to their health. This shield scales with a boost to attack and anti-interrupt for the entire duration. She executes a perfect block or defensive assist, allowing her Battle Spirit to inflict a damage increase debuff to enemies. Her effects are easy to trigger and are easily applied in all combat situations. Caesar was a fierce combatant in her own right. Use her EX to parry enemy attacks with her shield. This allows you for a follow up swing to deal heavy damage. She is a versatile unit that can take a backseat as a dedicated buffer. However, her kit forces her to remain on the defensive, allowing her to slow down. It’s best to pair her with a DPS unit like Jane or Soldier 11.

Evelyn is an easy to play character as her attack rotation consists of using her basic attacks to stack Burning Embers. This allows you to consume to perform your enhanced basic attack and generate one Burning Tether. You can expend them all to inflict a powerful chain attack sequence after getting three Burning Tethers. This allows you to deal significant damage in a single burst. Her crit rate by an additional quarter boost when Binding Seal is active. This causes her to automatically inflict a special attack upon them when you apply this debuff. When her crit rate is above 80%, she has access to a hefty damage bonus.

Qingyi

Qingyi’s kit is her Flash Connect Voltage and her patented three-section staff, a weapon capable of pulling together long combos. Her Subjugation stacks are accrued through perfectly dodging attacks and executing finishers. This allows you to stun multiplier that can reach double Lycaon’s sheesh. Her Flash Connect Voltage is another core component. She gets into the Flash Connect state at 75% charge. This allows her to expunge her charged voltage with an empowered basic attack. You need to keep Qingyi on the field for a long time to increase her damage potential output.

A-Tier

Miyabi

Miyabi is an anomaly unit and she is a real definition of real power. She’s all about dealing massive damage, especially with her frost burn and basic attack. What sets her apart though is how much damage she can stack when you equip with her hell storm shrine W engine. It’s like giving her a damage shot that will melt through enemies like butter. Miyabi is an excellent addition to an otherwise mono-Ice team comp as her Frost remains a distinct element from Ice. Miyabi’s dependence on anomaly buildup and crit rate demands a lot of investment into her build as her Icefire passive helps her ramp in combat. It’s very easy to fall into a suboptimal combo, making her one of the more complex in terms of her long animations and attack rotations.

Lucy

Lucy is a fire support and has three little homies that stay on the field and do damage. As they attack the enemy, various moves are going to change up what the Hogs do to complete their certain attacks. This ends up doing more damage and also has various Buffs attached to them. Lucy can give an attack buff to the entire team and even has a way to share her crit rate and crit damage with the Hogs as well. Not only that, she can also provide energy to your team, which is a valuable resource to give allies. This allows them to do their skill more often and is the source of their strongest moves. Lucy’s physical and fire kit makes her viable in team comps. Use her passive ability to summon Guard Boars to the field whenever she uses her special attack. She also has ATK and Impact stat, so it’s better to invest in Drive Discs to boost the strength in tough encounters. Her allies, Bangboo, and guard boars get an ATK buff due to her core passives.

Jane Doe

If you’re all about mobility, you’ve got to check out Jane. This anomaly unit doesn’t just move fast. She deals insane damage thanks to her assault attribute. She’s an absolute nightmare for enemies and works wonders on assault centric teams. When paired with another anomaly unit of a different element, that’s when the real magic happens, triggering massive disorder damage across the board. Turn her into an uninterruptable whirling dervish with her Salchow Jump attack that comes complete with a damage reduction bonus. Her overall best team comps demand premium units like Grace, Qingyi, and Rina.

Nicole

Nicole is one of the most valuable units when it comes to the trio that we get at the start. This is due to how much of a scarce unit she is. Not only her element but also what she’s able to provide. She’s also the only ether unit available before Zhu Yuan and can group up enemies. This is important in this game alongside the anomaly buildup that she can do as well, which gives the corruption. She even can reduce defense as well. This is an insane stat to have as a support, which is usually a future proof stat to have. There are many instances of Hoover’s games giving this defense down to any character. Nicole’s team comp viability to open up as more characters enter the roster. Her middling-to-low DEF and HP make her a glass cannon.

Lycaon

Lycaon is an ice stun character and by far one of the strongest day build-up characters. This allows enemies to be immediately stunned with a simple combo from his charge attacks. He can choose between both physical damage and his charge attack being ice damage. This allows him to give Buffs to his teammates to enjoy an ice resort down. He also has a higher stun damage multiplier, which is an enormous buff to give to your allies. Not only is he good for characters like Ellen, but also other teammates. His higher stun damage multiplier is going to overall give a huge damage boost to a lot of different allies. He’s such a strong character and a character you should look out for.

Soukaku

Skokaku has a permanent stay at the moment by Ellen’s side due to how well they work together. SouKaku can give her allies attack, and not only that, can also increase ice damage as well. She has an enormous amount of ice AOE within her skill and her chain attack as well. This allows for her to build up days and anomaly buildup in a wide area.  Another thing that makes Soukaku very strong is that she’s able to proc the quick assist for someone like Ellen. It gives her fast three stacks and makes her animation so much shorter. This allows you to get to the DPS as fast as possible. She has special, chain, or ultimate attacks. Soukaku can inflict Ice damage using a flurry of basic attacks. It’s important to note that her flat damage is little but overwhelming.

Seth

Seth is a solid defense unit that can shield your party, which is always a lifesaver, but that’s not all. Characters who are shielded by him also get an anomaly proficiency buff. This makes him an amazing support character, especially for anomaly-centric teams. He’s a great way to keep your squad alive longer while making sure that hitting hard when the time comes. He can chain attacks and EX specials to inflict burst damage. This allows you to trigger a quick assist. She chains well into the character that came before him. Seth applies an anomaly proficiency bonus to his teammates that makes him he ideal slot for an Anomaly damager dealer. Just like Zero and Shiyu Defense, his shield capabilities can change the tide of victory on a battlefield. This is a slow character and his EX special’s animation time leaves him wide open to interrupts. Seth’s entire attack rotation depends on him getting out of the way of your DPS characters.

Rina

Our next character who is also a high investment character or a high potential investment character is going to be Reena. She’s providing electric support with one of the highest future proof kits available in the game. She uses puppets to do her attacks and also has multiple ways of allowing off-field damage. Similar to Soukaku, she has the assist follow-up that you can proc with other characters. She has damage boosting with her penetration and also electric damage bonus. s

This makes her one of the strongest supports in the game without a doubt, especially for those that are electric DPS or regular DPS as well. They’re going to be able to get provided not only that res pen boost but if you’re electric DPS you’re getting that electric boost too. So, she can see some future value, and it’s going to Sky Rocky immensely once we get a proper electric DPS.

B-Tier

Ellen

Ellen is the strongest DPS and specifically an ice DPS with the potential to have 100% uptime on her ice infusion. She has a strong amount of AOE and dodging capabilities due to her Dodge Dash. She has innate abilities in her kit which give her the chance to keep her ice infusion and Dodge incoming attacks. She’s currently one of the strongest characters to have a team just because at the moment she has a full premium team with Lycaon.  This gives her an insane amount of value at the start. Lycaon gives the ice is down and also Soukaku gives the attack percentage. This allows Ellen to get her Stacks very quickly and is by far one of the strongest synergies in the game at the current moment.

Grace

Grace is going to be our next character when it comes to our electric anomaly buildup character. She has an insane amount of AOE and leads to an absurd amount of electric.
Anomaly buildup. This gives her amazing Synergy with multiple High element application characters. She also has great movement within her attacks, which allows for dodging and Rapid repositioning between the moments you may have in battle. She’s able to stock up on her charges for her grenade.

This is done by the bullets from her gun, and this gives you an enormous amount of AOE. Her skill does a lot in AOE and also her ultimate is amazing in AOE as well. She’s able to build up the anomaly for a bunch of these different enemies and allow for shock to happen. This is a lifesaver, especially with all the enemies that are robots at the very beginning of the game. So, Grace is going to be a super strong character to have early on. She is someone you should be looking out for because the investment potential for Grace is going to skyrocket.

Harumasa

Harumasa is a very good unit and is a sleeper pick. As far as attack units go, he is the best in the game. Granted his playstyle is a bit more to get used to than other agents. If you focus on his extremely powerful burst windows in a variety of teams that he can feature in. His strength grows immensely. You can also use him in teams, the other attack agents can’t even dream of. Such as with any anomaly agent, he truly doesn’t have a lot of pitfalls. This grants him the top spot of our attack tier list.

Piper

Piper is a physical anomaly character and she is a zzz’s version of Hera. She spins to win to be able to ramp up physical anomaly. This allows her to not only be one of the easiest assaults compared to Corin. Piper also gives the whole team a damage boost as well after you max out her power Stacks, which can be done by fully spinning with her skill. She’s one of the strongest four-star characters for sure and one you want to keep an eye out on. You can capture multiple enemies in its path by her Tire Spin special, which is a close-range spinning slash with a wide AoE. Piper can cancel out of her spinning animation for a dodge counter. This leaves the foes vulnerable to a Power Draft downward smash. This unique character comes with high anomaly proficiency to enhance attribute anomaly damage.

Soldier 11

Soldier 11 is a fire DPS that incentivizes players for learning her mechanics. This is to time normal attacks to the correct Rhythm, which gives you a temporary fire Fusion for that hit. This allows for possible 100% uptime on fire damage. It can boost a Soldier’s damage by an enormous amount. She can also use her skill and ultimate to allow her not to have to worry about the Rhythm. This heavily allows you to choose when to use the skill and when to use the ultimate. If you feel comfortable where you’re able to do the Rhythm every single time, then you can kind of spam that.

Now, when you have these big DPS Windows you go ahead and time your skill. Wait for that infusion to end, use your ultimate, wait for that infusion to end. Then come right back into the Rhythm with your normal attacks until you gain your skill in Ultimate back. This allows you to spam your normal attack once you have this temporary state of fire infusion from the skill in Ultimate. There are a lot of different ways to play Soldier 11. It will be 100% more optimized when you understand the timings and also the rhythm of how to use her.

Anby

Anby is an electric stunner that you get for free as the starter Trio. She has a nice amount of coverage of AOE between her chain attack, and not only that, her ultimate as well. She even has ways to amplify her day’s buildup, which makes her chain attack way easier to proc and for the rest of the team to use. She has multiple portions of her combo that allow her to have an enhanced version of her skill and a quicker one as well. Anby also can hold her attack at the end of her string to be able to give a slam down with a little bit more AOE and a lot more damage as well added on top of it. Anby’s kit is very beginner-friendly and overwhelmingly hinges upon her basic attack. Ensure you hold down her basic attack at the culmination of the third hit in her attack string to trigger Thunderbolt to net bonus Daze and an easy chain into her special.

Koleda

Koleda is a fire stun character who specializes in increasing the days meter by an insane amount. She has a fair amount of AOE with both her skill and ultimate. She even has longer animations which allow her to switch cancel between her other teammates. She also has a Synergy with Ben that further increases the move set of the two. This gives more days meter and not only that more AOE to what she’s already had. This is similar to where her skills in Ultimate are. She’s the only person in the game right now who has that Synergy with another character. If they’re on the same team, you get an expanded move set. Koleda is a good day’s meter buildup character, not as much as like him. She is a nice character for the fire team, if you so happen to use Soldier 11 or any of the other fire-related characters.

C-Tier

zzz-tierlist

Nekomata

Nekomata is a physical DPS who specializes in movement and high damage attacks. She has multiple ways of getting around the enemy and even has extra benefits for being on the backs of enemies as well. With the right piling, you will be impossible to hit. As soon as they start doing their moves to hit you, you can Dash right behind them. This helps you to do attacks on them while they’re still hitting in the direction you were in. This allows for a lot of different possibilities when it comes to not only allowing her to do damage, which is free. You can have yourself switch into another character. This do whatever you want with them, whether it be damage, anomaly buildup, or even higher days. There’s just so much you can do with Nekomata and also using her movement to our advantage, which is one of her strong suits.

Anton

Anton is an electric attack unit, which is the only character that has a transformation at the current moment or an install. He is a character that has multiple benefits in using and is one of the only electric DPS in the game. He has a nice spread of AOE and constant electric damage with nice day’s buildup as well. Anton even has constant anomaly buildup with how much he attacks. He’s the only character that goes from Straight Up physical damage only to turning into his skill and allowing him to give more electric damage. This is something that stays on for a certain amount of time. If you’re able to abuse this and give as much damage as possible, especially to the robots in the early game, you are going to wreak havoc. He can defeat a cluster of enemies together using his special. This character comes with decent HP but we recommend you keep him in third position in your team. Pick the Anton to stall your rotation when encountering high level enemies. It’s best to pair him with an electric character like Grace or Qingyi for additional shock effect.

Ben

Ben is a defense role character who specializes in Shields and parries within his kit. He has a Synergy with Koleda, which expands their move sets entirely by having them just on the team. He is a much better starter character due to the Forgiveness he gives with his parries and his shield. He also has the get off me factor in case you feel like you are being smothered by enemies. Ben is a character that is a niche use for a lot of different people. To stop a boss rampage in its tracks with ease, use his shielding capabilities. He can keep you alive when moving into the depth of the Infinite Abyss. Ben has slow movement that requires high-speed teammates with powerful chain attacks.

D-Tier

Corin

Corin has received multiple changes to her kid to try to reduce her power. She has still become one of the strongest physical attack units due to her buzzsaw. This not only raises the crazy amount of days meter that you are going to give to an enemy. It’s equivalent to a stun character but also allows for massive damage, and also an easy time getting assault. She is an all-in-one just like Nekomata when it comes to the multiple benefits that you’re going to get. When it comes to the days increase, the easy assault the ability to reduce physical resistance. This is a strong debuff to add. You are going to be able to use this character in a lot of different aspects. This is not only for some of her benefits of being a day’s buildup, anomaly buildup damage, but also to give that buff of physical resistance down to enemies. This allows other characters like Nekomata or even characters like Piper to be even stronger in the future. This character can inflict continuous Physical damage, meaning she can trigger the Assault debuff once she has an enemy pinned down. Keep in mind that her single-target attacks leave her vulnerable, giving enemies the opportunities to attack.

Billy

Billy is one of our few physical ranged DPS that we have currently in the game. He plays with his guns, which is one of our first range characters to be in the game. He has the potential to do some nice DPS alongside other characters. Billy also has a stackable old multiplier.
Based on the amount of chain tags that you do with them. This is a pretty cool thing to see and most players want to try this. He is one of the craziest characters in the game just because he doesn’t do a lot of damage innately within his kit. He doesn’t have any support of abilities to stack against the rest. He is a physical character and his ultimate compliment elemental attributes by boosting Anomaly Buildup by 10%. To deal damage to a sizeable chunk of the battlefield in one fell swoop, his chain attack is the focal point of his kit. Billy has low HP which makes him vulnerable in most cases.
