Respawn Entertainment reveals the actual Heirloom Shard drop rate in Apex Legends

Apex Legends offers numerous cosmetic items of various rarities and categories. Players earn all sorts of items like Hero Skins, Weapon Skins, Weapon Charms, Banners, Finishers, Emotes, Badges and more. In all of these cosmetics, the Mythic rarity is the highest level of rarity and they are only acquired by trading Heirloom Shards at the Mythic Store.

However, the Heirloom Shards are not easy to come by as they are obtained from opening the Apex Packs which seems to have less than a 1% chance of dropping, as confirmed by Respawn Entertainment. Yes, you read it right, Respawn Entertainment recently confirmed the drop rate chance of Heirloom Shards in their blog post which fans have been asking for years.

In this article, we will go over the revealed drop rate and how the drop system of Heirloom Shards actually works in Apex Legends.

The Exact Heirloom Shard Drop Rate in Apex Legends

Heirloom items have been the rarest in the game and any fan of the fast-paced battle royale, Apex Legends would love to get their hands on one of them. However, since it can only be acquired with Heirloom Shards, fans have been asking the Devs for the actual drop rate for the shards so that they can know when they can expect to get them and trade them for an Heirloom item.

Throughout the years, the Devs have given the hint of the drop rate being around 1%, but in a recent blog post, they confidently revealed that the actual drop rate is 0.045%. As per the post, “Heirloom Shard drop rates were previously listed as “less than 1%”, but we can now share a more detailed percentage of 0.045%.”

How the Heirloom Shard Drop Rate System Works

It seems very low, but to counter the probability of players not getting any Heirloom Shards ever, the Devs have created a system where players are guaranteed to get some. According to the in-game drop rate system for Heirloom Shards, a player is guaranteed to get a Heirloom Item or a set of Heirloom Shards after opening 500 Apex Packs, only if they didn’t receive any Heirloom drop from all 500 Apex Packs.

If a player is opening Apex Packs and receives any Heirloom items or Shards, the system will reset the player’s progress. In short, if you are close to opening 500 Apex Packs and you haven’t received any Heirloom Shards, you have a higher chance to get one and a guaranteed drop after opening 500 Apex Packs.

What to Do with Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends

The Heirloom Shards are one of the many currencies in Apex Legends and they are by far the rarest currency in the game. As we mentioned earlier, the Heirloom Shards are used to trade for an Heirloom Item from the Mythic store in-game. There are several Heirloom Items in Apex Legends ranging from an exclusive hero’s melee weapon to Banner Pose.

It costs 150 Heirloom Shards for one Heirloom Item from the Mythic Store. If you have acquired 150 Heirloom Shards from opening countless Apex Packs, consider yourself one of the lucky ones and spend them on your favorite Heirloom item.

That is all related to the actual Heirloom Shard drop rate in Apex Legends revealed by Respawn Entertainment, the developers of the game.
